31st August 2020 - Grass Cutting and other musings...

Thought for the day :"Never thought my kid would go that far .. Great Trebuchet – now to go get her sister …"

An oldie but a goodie...

A young man from Yorkshire moves to Lancashire and goes to a big new "everything under one roof" Superstore looking for a job.
The Manager says, "Do you have any sales experience?"
The lad says "Aye. Ah warra vacuum salesman back ooam in Yorkshire."
Well, the manager was unsure, but he liked the lad and figured he'd give him a shot, so he gave him the job.
"You start tomorrow. I'll come down after we close and see how you got on."
His first day on the job was rough, but he got through it. After the Superstore was locked up, the boss came down to see him.
"How many customers bought something from you today?" Asks the manager
The lad frowns and looks at the floor and mutters, "Won".
The manager says "Just one?!!?
"Our sales people average sales of 20 to 30 customers a day. That will have to change, and soon, if you'd like to continue your employment here. We have very strict standards for our sales force here in Lancashire. One sale a day might have been acceptable in Yorkshire, but you're not on the farm anymore, lad."
The lad took his dressing down, but continued to look at his shoes, so the manager felt a bit guilty for tearing a strip off him on his first day.
He asked (semi-sarcastically), "So, how much was your one sale for?"
The kid looks up at his boss and says, "£71,237 and 65p."
The manager, astonished, says £71,237 and 65p?!? What the hell did you sell?"
The lad says, "Well, first, ah sold him some new fish hooks. Then I sold him a new fishing rod t'go wi his new hooks. Then I asked him weer he wa goin fishin and he said darn t' cooast, so I teld him he wa goin t'need a booat, so we went down t'nautical department and I seld him a twin engine Yorkshire Cobble booat wia trailer. Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him down t'automotive department and sold him that theer 4x4 Range Rover Evoque"
The boss said, "A guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a boat and a 4X4!?"
The lad said, "Nay, t'bloke came in ere t'buy tampons for his missus, I said, 'Mate, your weekend's going t'be rubbish, tha may as well gu fishing!"

In Other news - learned how to say "Hello" in Mandarin today..

And so - today's Update...
Went back to 41 today, mainly to empty the Bothy and get it ready for transfer. Sadly, yes - The Bothy days are over.
It makes no sense to have her on the drive rusting away when she could be used by someone. I cannot see me doing any LARP meetings and my Masonry is on hold for the foreseeable future so she is going.
I though of selling to a LARP friend or re-enactor and decided that I would probably let her go for £750.. She owes me nothing. I only paid £3.5K and we have had her since 2013 -   and everything we have paid on her has been repaid doubly in convenience and reduced hotel bills.

So when my Mechanic friend  Paul who has kept her on the road for the last three years said he needed a van - it was a simple answer - yup - take it away - though I wanted to get all the trappings out of her - that took a good two and a half hours - I am not surprised that we were occasionally overweight - and that is just with the "tat" that was in her...

Sadly - the engine would not start - flat battery and we were not there long enough to re-charge  so will have to go back on Friday - but everything is out of her and "Dor" is in our new car looking after us as always.

We have Scarlett's little bed and some other trappings from the house though, so Andy And Calliope can visit tomorrow ..

By the time that we had finished and visited Vic and got home I decided to get the grass cutting go-kart out and see if I could "top" the grass. Managed to get it running but it was still very wet - but used the highest cutting level and got over most of the grass. Found out that the cutters stop when too much matted grass is underneath - regular when it is this wet - even with sun for two days - the dew in the morning is so heavy ...

But we got there  - a little rough - but happy that it is manageable again

Before

After - still quite long but "topped"

Susie managed to put Dusty the Brooding Chicken into a new brooding pen with 4 eggs under her - we shall see if they are fertile in addition to the 12 bought eaters and the 6 from Cedric and the Girls - may have a menagerie of Chickens in the days to come...   Will be interesting to see what comes out...

I see that schools are all going back to full time - saw this little gem about masks in schools
Tickled me ! thought it is sad but true...

And so, I am being chased this evening by a wife asking where the blog is!!.
She knows I have been busy and working hard to get my birthday cards out and sorted..  No peace for the wicked - so better close this down for today ..

And so ...
Cheers !
