22nd May 2026 - And the Tavern is Open

Thought for the day :"Friday always comes after Thursday or so we thought. Just checked my dictionary. No it doesn't."

Wet

We are apparently having the first major heat wave of 2026 - the hottest day in England!
And the Crimson Moon is open .. and it rained !

Not as busy as expected , but a good evening enjoyed by all. Guitar and the Sax.. James & Ffion Dafis-Clode gave a lovely set for an hour.

Generally a good evening - certainly not a stressful one on this occasion

21st May 2026 - Moving Hard Core - and I don't mean music

Thought for the day :"I used to work in a cemetery digging holes. We once put the wrong coffin in the wrong hole. I suppose you could say that was a grave mistake."

Wet

Early start with Chris and heading off to Nancy to collect all the hardcore that was left over from the building work at the house.  Was a little more than I was expecting and found that we had to pump the tyres up a little to hold the couple of ton that we brought back.

So that was the main task of the day - will get back to the garden management next week I think.

Susie was out half killing herself  doing her weed clearing and planting.

Oops - forgot to get an "after"  picture !!!   But it all looks a lot more tidy now !

In other news,  seems Tilly is making life decisions..

19th May 2026 - Henfynwy Royal and Select

Thought for the day :"went to my plastic surgery support group meeting last night, lots of new faces there."

Wet

Another wet day - but the lane is so green as a result. Walking the dogs.

And as a result of the barbecue we had a spare lettuce - so decided to put it on string to allow the peacocks and chickens to peck as they go

And having spent three days with my head inside the book, tonight was the installation ceremony for Henfynwy Royal and Select Masters Council, where I installed my successor for the year and took over as Director of Ceremonies.  Photo to follow. Had one taken.

Looking towards the weekend and managed to persuade James and Ffion Clode to come and play for us on Friday Night in Guitar and Sax.

Have to put some posters out tomorrow

Cheers

16th May 2026 - Sarn Helen Social and BBQ

Thought for the day :""Go hang a salami & I’m a lasagna hog” is a palindrome"

Wet
(of course it is - the Crimson Moon is open)

A long day - starting at 8am - early for me, but plenty to do. Sound systems in, and Susie was a star with all the food prep.
26 including 7 vegans in the end. Double BBQ's so no contamination and everyone seemed to enjoy.

Played for just under an hour and then Sir Dangerous Dave played for 50 minutes to finish the day.
Will definitely have to have him back as a set artist.

Some photos - may have a chance to do something with the videos later - but all for now

Social and BBQ

15th May 2026 - Garden Work

Thought for the day :"Some ne'er-do-well has stolen the 22nd letter of the alphabet"

Wet

Bit of a busy day. Chris with me, but we started with a trip to Cardigan to take back the barrels and get a 20 litre of Cwrw Teifi for the BBQ tomorrow (weather looks bad!), and dropped some metal off at the dump and some other stuff that was in the Trailer. On then to Sarah's for some pallets and a few bit and pieces and back to the homestead.

Some compost from the chickens to the Polytunnel. Chris dug out a third of one of the beds that needs changing. Took the plastic pallets down to the lower quarter for flooring in the future kitchenette.
Susie planted all her flowers into the pots before tomorrow.
I cut the lawns and strimmed the Pontoon and the front of house.

Volvo passed its MOT test and is running well. Need to make a decision about fixing the roof and considering selling her now.

Have Dave and his son Edric staying with us this evening - Dave will be playing tomorrow as one of the acts. I will be the other part of entertainment. Fingers crossed that the weather will hold.

Weather bitty today - when the sun is out it is warm but when it goes in it is bitterly cold.

May need the firepits tomorrow.

Still, a walk around the gardens as I put the chickens away shows the work Susie has been doing making the place look good,

Oh, and local charcoal for notice in the future..   Local Care Farm

And so to bed

Cheers
