21st August 2020 - Keeping Dry in Wales - Not really

Thought for the day :"6.30 is the best time...hands down"

And from yesterday...
On 20th August 1881, The Sunday Closing (Wales) Act was passed. It prohibited the sale of alcohol on a Sunday in Wales.
This was the first Act of Parliament in the United Kingdom since the 1542 Act of Union whose application was restricted only to Wales.
William Gladstone's Liberal government passed the act which would change the culture and politics of Wales. It had been sponsored by the Welsh nonconformists in the Liberal party, such as Lloyd George and was not repealed until 1961.

Much of Wales was still dry when I was in Aberystwyth in 1973 - 76

Well today is blowing like anything and tipping down with rain..
But that means that the river is a lot higher than usual and the spring is flowing over the damn.

Took a few pictures for before and after comparisons...

River's up!!!

'Thena is not that impressed with the Rhodo Shrine in the wet..

The Spring is very high..

and for the future...

and Susie sheltering from the rain ..

and the demise of some wobbly heads...

And so I leave you this to reflect on (See what I did there?)

In other news, got some fence staples to start mending some walkways - and they need it - some are very slippery, as Susie found yesterday as she slipped and hurt her ankle.. and found a timber merchant who is very friendly - but sadly does not do re-cycled wood - but we can get some planking from him fairly cheaply. Sad to say - this does not look like being a cheap place to upkeep !
Susie changed her Blood pressure tablets today from Ramipril. Hopefully this will get rid of her Covid style persistent cough in the mornings. It is the same problem I used to have. We shall watch this space.
But managed to get a Doctor's appointment with little trouble and our local medical facilities seem to have everything - was concerned that we would have to go to Carmarthen or Aberystwyth for bloods etc - but they seem to be able to do everything on site.
Listened to the traffic news this evening and delays and traffics jams all over the country. We were pretty bad in our road - saw two cars today - well actually the same one twice. Seems like a good place to be ...
So - that's about all for one day...
Cheers !
