9th December 2013 - Home again Home again Jiggedy Jig....

If you have the opportunity to sleep in a castle, it is an opportunity not to be missed. Add to that the is continuous rain of a Sunday - and the fact that the lid of Bertha the tent is a little less than water-proof, and it is well worthwhile getting to bed in a warm campervan and sleeping over - and deciding to pack down the next day...

And so it was that Sunday Evening was corn-beef hash and beans, and a fine bottle of wine in our favourite court yard under the shades of the Tower of the Green Lady...

Arriving home in the mid afternoon, it must be said that the canvass was very wet !! And so it was that the house became once more the scene of devastation that has been normal for the last several years...
Over the weekend we have had the pleasure of meeting so many old friends, re-enactors, but also customers from our previous trips to Caerphilly Castle. And a great pleasure it was to see old friends from Bristol and Weston Supermare, each of whom had travelled up by coach for their annual trip, and then availed themselves of the firepit and straw bales (in lieu of benches that we no longer have!!)

An opportunity to sing a few songs and entertain the assembled crowds, as we were set up along the queue for Santa... we managed to find a few stragglers who found that a warming cup of mulled wine was just what the doctor ordered.....

A very jolly Santa he was too - though the queues started getting very long as he spent a lot of time with each child - a great thing for the child - but less so for those who had to queue for up to an hour in the freezing cold...

There always seem to be some benefits in everything however, and Santa's little elves were a delight, and rather photogenic it must be said..

No!! I will not make any cheap lines like "what I would like to find in stockings" or any such thing!!
I just happened to have my camera handy....

But Bertha had poshed up well as the new Wolves' Kitchen - and I must say looked rather splendid in the Courtyard. The darkness of the day meant that the small spotlights that were shining on the Wolf Blankets picked out the colours very well.

And of course, Nona the 'Nebriated Nun was there to serve and provide a welcome to the Kitchen.

And the Old Drunken Monk was back to sing a few ditties, make some ribald and rather pathetic jokes - which most seem to like!!  and knock back a few mulled wines in the meantime...

And so the weekend had passed ... and we slept out once more in the Castle grounds - though it must be said that this time was far more comfortable - int he confines of the Bothy...  with a nice oil fired heater to warm the place up!!!

And so it is goodbye from the Drunken Monk Teddies who were of course once more on duty ...

And back to the house - which is now festooned with canvass and wet blankets  - just like old days !!!

Perhaps it is time for a mulled wine!!!
