16th October 2019 - Brain the Size of a Planet - RIP

Thought for the day :"Turn an ordinary sofa into a sofa bed – just forget her birthday"

Daily Trumpton...

Actor and inspiration for Radiohead’s Paranoid Android hit, Stephen Moore, has died aged 81. The star was best known for his voice acting work on The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, where he played Marvin, the Paranoid Android. While his cause of death is unknown, Moore’s sad passing was confirmed by Hitchhikers Guide producer, Dirk Maggs. Sharing photos of Moore to Twitter yesterday, the producer wrote: ‘Our dear friend Stephen Moore has died. ‘A fine actor, a lovely man and the original and most iconic voice of Marvin The Paranoid Android.’

Moore, who was born in Brixton, first voiced the role of the ‘manically depressed’ robot Marvin with ‘a brain the size of a planet’ in 1978 during the second episode of the original radio series and TV spin-off.

He also played a number of minor characters including Gag Halfrunt, The Ruler of the Universe, the whale and Frankie Mouse. In 2018 he retired from the role and Jim Broadbent took over for the adaptation of And Another Thing. It was Moore’s character that inspired the title of Radiohead’s 1997 hit Paranoid Android with lead singer Thom Yorke saying of the title: ‘That’s how people would like me to be.’

And from Athelstan...
