17th May 2023 - Monthly Catch up and the Lower Quarter

Thought for the day :"Too many idiots – not enough axes – just saying"

Monthly Post....

16th of the Month again - This time May 2023
34 months since we arrived in Ffynnon Wen and all of it slowly revealing on this site with a daily update.
Daily Update tells me that the peacocks were laying at this time last year.
No sign yet this year - but now I know to start looking in the coop and around the ground.
So much has happened. This time last year we were ready to open the Tavern for the first time, for the Jubilee- and for a Queen not a King. The yurt had just been finished.
Today I have been strimming an area on the "lower quarter" that a year ago I did not think actually would be at all useful, with an element of pride about a log garden that I have planted from scratch and is still giving a blaze of colour with huge tulips, and fledgling azaleas seem to be taking with promises for the future.
Susie has her Polytunnel that we were talking about two years ago - but has now come to fruition..
Sadly she is hobbling around on crutches having turned her foot on my wobbly steps, the replacement step may not be perfect but it is my own concrete with possible cement that was past its time and may be a little crumbly, but that is progress.
We are a blaze of colour once again - with respect to Victor and Barbara who we feel are the main architects of the gardens in terms of planting an planning, it is a monumental and continuous task - but very fulfilling....
Come and visit us .. We are here .. a welcome is here ... Bring a Bottle

And so today was a day of strimming down the lower quarter, and Cat was with us playing with the Bosch chain saw and having fun clearing my branches, which is a great help - I do not like the bending down these days! and I attacked the fallen trunk and managed to get it into a number of logs instead of the obstruction that it was...

Also managed to lay a lot of straw into the polytunnel to create a base for the earth and compost to follow so I do not have to dig quite so much ..

Beginning to clear - and getting on top of the balsam at last ..

Getting there slowly !!
Cheers
