A story of our times...
A
man applied for a job as a caretaker/cleaner at a large factory and was
invited for an interview. The HR Manager offered him the job and asked
"Can I please have your email address so I may send you all the
relevant documents?"
The man answered, "I don't have an email address or a computer come to that."
The HR Manager was shocked, "Really? Then I am sorry. With out an email address you won't exist on our system and I can't give you the job. Goodbye."
The upset man left. Looking inside his wallet he found ten pounds. This gave him an idea. He went to Tesco and bought ten pounds of apples and then went door to door selling them. An hour later he had 20 pounds which he used to buy more apples. He continued this process until late in the evening. At the end of the day he went home 320 pounds in his pocket.
The man continued his door to door sales every day and got to know the people who bought from him and what they wanted to buy. He could eventually afford a bike and sold further afield. Then a delivery truck and then his own store. A few years later he opened his own supermarket.
Later in life he started to think about retirement and writing a will. He consulted a financial adviser to find out how he could leave an inheritance. When they were finished discussing everything the adviser asked the man for his email address.
The man answered, "I have never had an email address and I never will. Please send all information through the post."
The financial adviser was surprised and said "You built your entire business without a computer or email? Imagine where you could have been if you had one."
The man answered, " A caretaker."
