19th June 2014 - Of bills and Bonfires

Thought for the day: "Some cause happiness wherever they go. Others whenever they go."

Occasionally, things work out for the best. A rattling exhaust has been annoying for the last week or so, and getting around to the garage has been a job that was being put off and put off. Finally, popped it around day before yesterday and sure enough one of the rubber blocks holding the exhaust in place had snapped and the end of the exhaust was hanging and dangling a little, and banging against the bodywork causing a noise...

A day in the garage waiting for blocks that were late being delivered and then were the wrong ones, but finally the job was completed. The good news was that it was apparently 363 days ago that we had the exhaust fitted at the garage - and that meant that the parts were still in warranty and no charge for the fix. I so easily might have put things off for another day or so!

But is is an area that I do not often think about - the logistics involved with the garage and car repair business. Generally, a car is taken in - examined - new parts identified and fixed...  But that middle bit is quite amazing in my view. The whole business set around delivery of parts. The car goes into the garage in the morning - the parts are delivered the same day and the car is fixed. I know I always complain about the cost of the work, but this part of the process is quite astonishing.  Just an observation really.....

But yesterday the bill was excellent..... No Charge!!!

Having relaid the kitchen floor, my mind went to wooden palletts and what you can do with them. Well one thing you can do with them is building a very large tower and set it alight. Why would you want to do that??  I suppose because you can??

First, you need to have a human ladder to get the pallets to the top ... This reminds me of my stack of boxes and that I should really be clearing the container of the last few boxes of books...  My stack is not as high as this....
The final structure - quite an impressive tower - Ready for the Midsummer bonfire in Ă…lesund, Norway.

And once it is all built up - then the best idea is to set it alight and step well back ...

That would roast a burger or two....  So back to the sun and the garden - Cheers !

  1. Two thoughts enter my mind on seeing those photos and the video:

    1) No H&S Department in Norway, obviously!
    2) Hell of a laborious way to get rid of the village witch !
