9th February 2014 - A meeting with old friends and colleagues

What a pleasure to arrive at the "What's your Game" Kit and resource fayre, and receive a welcome from all the traders and visitors.

Saturday had been an option to travel down to Gloucester, but the weather never really looked reasonable enough, and the tail end of the cold brought my enthusiasm levels to about the zero level. Attending on Saturday might have allowed the option of celebrating during the evening, or even trying to blag a last minute place at the Banquet with Professor Elemental entertaining, but the zest never really got above zero, and so it was left to Sunday....

The morning weather did not really improve the chances, but the option of taking the Bothy for a run seemed  to beckon, and a quick bite of toast and the M4 called!!!

Rain!!  Fog !! Hail !!  possible snow - it was very "splatty" rain if it was not snow... It seems that I missed the blockage of the M4 over Brittanferry Bridge where a lorry had turned over - I did not see it... Or if I did it might have been on the back of a breakdown lorry that was moving towards Llanelli very slowly... How strange !! Cross the Severn Bridge and it was Sunny !

Choosing the Satnav option, I followed the motorway all the way round and got to Gloucester just after midday .

A delight to see everyone - a good turn out - but the most heartening thing was the immediate recognition by everyone there. Called by name across the room time after time - was quite touching! A good time to catch up with news and a clear indication that Iain / Vollsanger has survived the Crimson Moon and that I was there in my own right...   May sound silly, but after spending over ten years building up the Crimson Moon and the entire marketing strategy that involved, "Quarter to Eleven", ""5 Country Wines, 9 Meads and the best Real Ales in the Country ", "Trust the Barkeep", "Its my Job!" and all the images that go with it, it is refreshing to know that Susie and I can be associated in the Reenactment and Role Play environment in our own right.

It was only a couple of hours, but it inspired the check of the diary for the rest of the year - and I will surely miss some of the events, both in the sense that I will miss them - as well as "miss" them!! However - I think I will manage to get to some - and that will be something to look forward to.

Managed to take a little video of sections, and have the idea of putting it all together into a short Promo entitled "Bard on the Run"  - starting with the rain and snow, and culminating with a hugg with the Stagger Inn's fine Wench "George"  - What !!!  Had to be done !!  "I'm Vollsanger!!"

Not sure it will get many hits ...   but they all count   ...

So Sunday - 240 miles, a quick cup of tea with friends in the Forest of Dean, and a chance to meet young Maximillian and an evening of telly.

Bottled a new batch of Chateau 41 (White) - rather good !!   Of course you have to test it when it gets bottled,,,
