Thought for the day :"I am now at an age where my train of thought usually leaves the station ahead of me"
A sad start to the day as Snowball, one of our chickens, was found dead this morning with the neck stripped - the signs we think of an attack by mink. We have so far lost 4 ducks and a chicken and it seems that the mink can get through a stupidly small hole - and our chicken wire was not small enough...
Actually we also found that the corner was loose and there was a hole that would have allowed a mink or weasel into the cage. But everything we read suggests that we need to have smaller mesh..
Sadly, nowhere seems to have the small mesh sizes at the moment - shortage of supply.
Susie went for a search and failed - then came back and phone everywhere and in the end found that there was some in Aberystwyth - in Toolstation! None of the farmer supplies seemed to have any .
So she had a trip up to Aber to get the roll of fencing, also a mink trap and staples to fix the fencing.
Next stage was to try to make our own version of fort knox to keep the chicken safe.
Indeed - it was getting to bedtime and they were waiting to get into their coups by the time we were finishing off the battens ..
In other news - while she was away I put the frame together for the base for the Ty Bach
Ready for the build tomorrow.
And so - that is enough for one day ...

Day 5 of the Green One October... MANDARIN
Cheers !
