18th July 2019 - Jumping off Bridges

Thought for the day :"So the word ‘gymnasium’ comes from Ancient Greek and means ‘to exercise naked’. Anyway, I’m banned from the gym."

I blast from the past this morning as I found some old photographs of our Charity abseil from the Cleddau Bridge in my Police days ..

With Wings and a Flying Pig hat of course

And Susie goes as well

quite high
And over £45,000 raised for the Noah's Ark Appeal..

I read the safety comments...

The Cleddau Bridge Abseil challenge involves a free abseil of about one hundred and sixty feet from the bridge gantry to a waiting boat.  From this boat you will transferred to one of the spectator venues by speedboat.
No previous experience of abseiling or any like activity is needed nor does it require any strength or technical skill.  THE ABSEIL IS ABSOLUTELY SAFE.  How can we say this with such confidence?
  •  The anchor points on the bridge are totally safe as they are integral to the construction of the bridge itself.  If they fail it is because the bridge is falling down!
  •  The equipment used is of the highest standard and will be ‘doubled’ on all occasions.
  •  The staff involved are trained to very high standards and each ‘stance’ will have three trained safety personnel.
  •  All the processes for the event have been inspected and approved by some of the highest qualified climbing and abseiling instructors in Wales.
All the participants will receive a specially commissioned event T-shirt, certificate and photographs of their descent.
All safety equipment, including life jackets will be provided.

Yup -but it was high !!!

Ho Hum - what we do for Charity ...

Cheers !
