Today should have been a simple task to talk about the NSPCC and new roles and challenges.. However, an early call informed me that a good friend, Ken, had managed to walk away from Glangwili A & E last night, despite having been identified as suffering from a form of Dementia, being very confused, diabetic without his tablets, and awaiting ambulance transport home after a fall and stitches to his head...
How this happens is beyond me !!! I am not one to jump onto the finger pointing and blaming - but it certainly seems to me that there have been some shortcomings...
We were in Carmarthen last night - with the unexpected rain that fell at 7pm ! We know that as we were attending hte NSPCC AGM and had no idea that we were going to need umbrellas, or coats...
Apparently at about 8.30pm the CCTV shows Ken in Priory Street - direction of travel unknown!!!
I later find that at 1am he was seen near Llanarthney - completely the wrong direction for home and we all got a little more concerned for a 72 year old - in shirt sleeves with a bandage on his head...
A day therefore of Social Media - contacting Llanelli Star and Carmarthen Journal, and providing better photographs and ensuring that many shares and publicity... Tweets and postings...
8.45pm this evening and we have the news that Ken is found and in an ambulance heading back to hospital for a check up - Gareth, his son, has returned from London where he is starring in a show, and the producer has cancelled two nights to allow him to return - How about that !!!
So with that good news - there is little time to write about other things .. Apparently the Hywel Dda Health Board is to hold an enquiry - I think they should - though it will probably end up with and overworked and underpaid member of staff being reprimanded for something that they had little control over in a busy environment... But we wil see..
Personally I think we all want Ken returned safely..
I will drink to that - Chateau 41 it is..
Oh - thought I would stop doing place names for October and start on religion !!!
