Thought for the day:"Never date a tennis player - Love means nothing to them "
The Chinese New Year kicks off today (Tuesday, February 5) under the Chinese zodiac of the Pig. Unlike the Gregorian calendar used in the western world, the Chinese New Year is based on the movements of the Moon. According to some older Chinese traditions, the New Year would be celebrated on the 23rd day of the 12th month of the Chinese calendar. Today's New Year date coincides with the darkened New Moon which will peak over the UK around 9pm GMT (UTC) on Monday, February 4.
The New Moon kick-starts a new lunar cycle – a crucial element of the Chinese calendar because it marks the start of a new month.
Sometimes known as the Spring Festival, Chinese New Year celebration focus on one of the 12 animals represented in the Chinese zodiac.
This year revellers will celebrate the so-called Female Earth Pig, the last of the 12 horoscope signs.
This means 2019 is the last Chinese New Year of the ongoing 12-year-long cycle.
The Chinese New Year celebrations are expected to end on February 19 this year.

The Pig, according to Chinese myth, was the last of the 12 animals to arrive at a meeting called by the Jade Emperor.
Legend has it the Pig fell asleep and had a meal during its race to see the Emperor, which has earned it a reputation of being lazy and laid-back.
The Pig is said to be most compatible with the Rabbit and Goat but two Pigs are also said to get along well with one another.
