9th March 2014 - Skinny Dipping in Llanelli

Unexpectedly, Sunday morning turned out to be full of blue skies and an unseasonable warmth. Good intentions for an early start were rather put off by a lazy start to the day, but a late breakfast (healthy of course - cucumber and tomato and smoked salmon and cheese) led to a quick drive down to Burry Port to return the car. Susie decided to see if she could attack the living room and make some semblance of order. Sorting so that we can start ebaying clothes and kit...    Delft had some company so Rusty joined me..

And the coastal path beckoned for the return journey. Sun was bright. And though the path was blocked in places for the new sewage pipes, something that cost me an additional ten minutes of walking around in a circle trying to find a suitable exit, the day was ripe for a stroll.

Views of Burry Port and the sea and the land were distinctly different from only a week ago. Bright and vibrant. A little early for most growth, and far too many people on the path for much in the way of wildlife...

One whole stretch was marked with shells opened and empty. Signs of seagull I presume, or other feeding birds being so far away from any water...
Through the trees - the spire of St Mary's glints as dog and I made our way along the path, dodging cyclists and walkers and the occasional jogger. The sun seemed to be bringing everyone out onto the path.
Through the bushes, across the pond, the path marker can be clearly seen - the next stage of the walk. One third of the trip from Burry Port to Llanelli down... Going strong....
Around the corner, and Rusty heads on up to the Marker. Best skip over his association with such a monument! But views from here are quite splendid if the weather is with us.

The sand boat was not in dock, but the jetty and sand pipes were nicely silhouetted against the waters. Makes you wonder whether the sandpiper might be named after these pipes rather than the water bird.

The paths were very busy today - many cyclists and walkers. Most of the time Rusty remained on the grass and happily came back to heel when called - which was just as well as I had remembered the doggy poo bags but not the lead.. Had my trusty dog-walloper walking stick but that was mainly for me to rest on.

Today, the pavilion at Pwll was well supported with people enjoying the sun and sitting out. As I got nearer to the tennis courts I noticed that the broken fences had allowed the local children to enter and commence their own game of tennis. From a distance I wondered why there were bicycles in the courts.. It was only as I got nearer that I discovered the reason...

A series of bicycles across the court made a makeshift net - ingenious..
Further down the path, passing the Amelia Earhart monument..  and heading for the Eisteddfod fields. Suddenly, Rusty started flopping...  It was a warm day and he did have a thick coat on! He ran a bit and then flopped. Rolling on his back and enjoying a good scratch...
But it was when we arrived at the fresh water fishing ponds that he found a new strength and made his way forward....
And a full submerge it was and a laze for a few minutes...

"Just leave me be...  I will be alright in a minute !!"    The thickness of his coat is such that it probably would take several hours of soaking to ever reach the skin through his fur...

"Time to leave?  - I'll just be a minute more !!   Can't we stay all day ??"

Well in the end we were on our way and cut across the Eisteddfod fields away from the crowds and down the back paths to Sandy Water Park. Here the shoots of fresh spring flowers are beginning to pop out from the pathways. Small golden weeds along the borders. The daffodils are slow along the waterways, but as we get to the road they are on display.. It is clear that they have only opened today now the sun has shone...  The next few days will see a great profusion along these roadways...

So a Sunny walk along the coastal path for a Sunday - and a dog skinny dipping in the ponds..
What ?? you didn't think I meant me ???
