15th July 2024 - Too wet for the Garden - Clearing Cupboards

Thought for the day :"New Medical Definitions : Benign - What you be after you be Eight"

Rain - a lot of it - and it is St Swithin's day so we could have another 40 days to come ...

But also...
Today is Saint Cewydd's day - Dygwyl Cewydd.
Cewydd is the Welsh saint of the weather (as St. Swithun is in England) and according to tradition, the weather on St. Cewydd's day determins the weather for the following forty days and forty nights.
Cewydd (Born c. AD 490) was allegedly a son of Caw of Prydyn (Strathclyde), who sought asylum with his family in Edeirnion (in current day Denbighshire) after being expelled from their homeland. He is said to have become a monk at St. Cadog's monastery at Llancarfan near Barry. He is associated with churches on Anglesey, Lancaut in Chepstow , Cusop near Hay-on-Wye , Steynton in Rhos and Capel Cewy, Mynachlogddu (Pembrokeshire) and Llangewydd and Laleston (Bridgend). It appears that he settled in the cantref of Elfael (in current day Radnorshire) where he is connected with the churches at Aberedw and Disserth.

Walked the dogs before the rain got too bad - but the rest of the day has been spent inside - making lists for Germany and clearing my Wardrobe cupboard. Had to throw all the shirts under 17 1/2 away as I can't see me ever getting back into them.

Sorted clothing for Germany - well at least I have a pile in an orderly fashion.

Apparently Jan and Iris have a queen size camping bed for our use, so a little less to worry about ..
But the list of things to take is still pretty long

No Photos of the Garden today ...  too wet

But enjoyed these pictures of some famous people looking for new jobs

And a quick harken back to the "Good old Days"  - Prices from 1974..

And a thought about Scottish Folk Tunes

Cheers !
