27th April 2023 - The Terminator

Thought for the day :"Sadly we've lost some of our local businesses recently - The bakers ran out of dough"

Step one today was to put more chicken wire on the fencing to stop the chicken escaping
Step two was to monitor the effectiveness - thus the hammock !!

Life can be hard sometimes

Then Susie puts her electric rotovator together and we have a go at the first beds and it is great

Susie still has to get the main weeds out - but then I can get in with the terminator..

Looking good

And not bad for a day ..

Cheers !

26th April 2023 - A few more Acon pictures

Thought for the day :"Sadly we've lost some of our local businesses recently - My trampoline business isn't going well, very up and down"

A few more pictures from last Saturday and my installation as Master of the Sir Rhys ap Thomas Chapel of the Masonic Order of Thomas of Acon

Missed the day - photos to come but maybe a break as I will be at event for the next few days

Cheers !

25th April 2023 - Garden Stuff

Thought for the day :"Sadly we've lost some of our local businesses recently - The construction company has collapsed"

A busy day today - The sun came out and though I would not say it was hot - it was certainly shirtsleeve warm...

So, for me a trip down to the lower quarter to plant a ring of Arum Lillies - I have no odea what they are but Susie says that they will go well and so I have planted them ...

This shot is for before and after comparisons as this shows the full bed before the azaleas are introduced..

I have put four azaleas into the bank - so they should grow up in time - Purple, Yellow, Pink and Red.

Cleared a bit of the hardcore as is my wont - a few bricks at a time and moved them up to the firepit by the Yurt ..

Also Collected a wheelbarrow of rotting wood to take up to the polytunnel to form a base for the large raised bed in the center - it is to prevent having to move several tons of earth !!

So Susie had a task today - to mend her herb beds ..  setting a new base for the front wicket fencing, repainting and rebuilding the fence,

and the finished job..

I touched up the black paint on the rear of the herb bed and while I was there decided to paint some of the main boards that were now cleared due to the death of the large bush where we now have a camelia.. the fencing looked terrible as it had not been painted before..

Yup - got a lot o me as well - par for the course.

Was dry enough to cut the lawns - though just at the end the spring holding the tension wheel snapped - interestingly - not the repair that I did which lasted - but the metal itself on the hook - nothing I can do about that.

Looked the part up on the John Deer site - £18.75 plus VAT ..
Will see if I can source something a little cheaper

In other news - Toby was meant to be resting but instead has been running around like a crazy thing as usual - never was meant to be a calm animal - found half a calf I think - no Idea where it came from!!
But he was very proud of his possession. Manged to persuade him to part with it and take a small piece of antler instead - have no idea where that came from either !!!

I put some posters up at the end of the road and in some caravan parks and local shops..
Made some A2 versions by sellotaping 4 pages together - kooks quite good ..

Susie off to the Gardening Club tonight - so able to do a few admin jobs..

Amazon decided that as the company with the tablet had not answered me they would cover the warranty and refunded the full amount of the cost. Will buy another one tonight.

Some faux fur arrived today also on Prime - it looks as though it could be cold this weekend and I wanted my wrap around fur wraps..

And that about sums up the day

Cheers !

24th April 2023 - Toby to the Vets - Front Nearside Paw defective

Thought for the day :"Sadly we've lost some of our local businesses recently - the firework factory has gone up in smoke although they went out with a bang,"

Poorly Toby today
He has had a bad limp on his front nearside paw for a couple of days - no doubt due to charging around like a looney - but it is hard to keep him form being so active..

But a trip to the vets today and an injection to make him a little calmer and some medicine and rest for a couple of days - we shall try ..

In other news - since we were in Newcastle Emlyn it would have been rude not to buy some azaleas for my lower quarter and Susie needed to replace some herbs in the herb garden (no photos).
Weather has turned for the worse again - with a bitter wind coming down from the North Pole and the temperatures have really dropped - there was a risk of frost last night so we have not planted anything today. In fact - I have done very little indeed!

Amazon finally agreed to give a refund on my 10" tablet that has failed to charge as the company has failed to respond to my request - should have the money when I send the machine off tomorrow.

Meanwhile have bought some faux fur to try to replace my fur wraps as it looks as Event could be pretty cold at the weekend - have to get my stuff together soon .. Another job to be done..

Susie has Gardening club tomorrow so will need to get some posters done for them ..

And now Toby is pining at the front door waiting to be let out ..
Best go with him ...

Cheers !

23rd April 2023 - Pathways

Thought for the day :"Sadly we've lost some of our local businesses recently - the gym felt the weight of it all and benched it"

Sunday and the weather is bright but rather cold..
So some tasks to complete today ...

First was to move a couple more wheelbarrows of stone chippings from the Beer Garden to the polytunnel - slow work in progress one step at a time

Second job was to repair the raised pathway in the paddock where the planks have broken..
The long term plan is to replace with plastic footings and gravel as in the lower quarter but running out of time for the opening in the Coronation - not sure I can get the whole pathway up - new plastic laid and enough gravel put in place in the timing - a half way job would be too dangerous for public...
So decided on a quick repair of the broken areas in the short term and propping up the sagging parts ..

and job done

planking completed

Meanwhile, in the Polytunnel Susie planted some more dahlias

Took the strimmer into the lower quarter and levelled until the battery ran out ..   more work tomorrow

Later we had a visitation - Sarah and Dave and the Blue Bulldog ..  overheated a bit so decided to have a glass of wine - well why not !!

Cheers !
