31st March 2023 - Guests visiting - First Blue Bells peeping out

Thought for the day :"I asked for would give me the best mixer and was told Kenwood - so I asked if he was available "

A bit of work in the Polytunnel before guests arrive. Flooring went down yesterday but started taking the scaffolding boards in to size the beds..

Was raining but managed to get out with the dogs.. First Rhodos are coming out - the red one, with some white below it..

My lower quarter is flowering well with the tulips coming out soon

And hard to see - but the first bluedrop is out !!

Walking back along the road and another tree is down - caught on another one - just off my land..

A wet Friday afternoon as Hayley and Simon join us for the weekend. It was almost 10 years ago that I presided over their handfasting as Celebrant and we had not seen each other in a number of years. Hayley is an artist and trades at re-enactment events. Simon is in sign-writing.

We did not really have much of a chance to do anything in the garden as the weather was really pretty rough - with the river breaking the banks.

Cheers !

30th March 2023 - Tracks down and Scaffold Planks bought

Thought for the day :" Don't sing in the shower! Singing leads to dancing, dancing leads to slipping, and slipping leads to paramedics seeing you naked. So remember…Don’t sing!"

A tiring day in the wet !!!
Yes I walked the dogs and they came back very wet!

Lower Quarter is looking good

Task one was to putdown the track for the walkway in the polytunnel

But his afternoon I borrowed a trailer from Sarah and trotted off to Swansea to collect 25 scaffold planks
which I duly put onto the trailer and brought back
Due to the darkness and the Vectra having no visibility or height to be able even to look out of the window to see the rear - I failed to reverse the trailer into the drive and so it was a better idea to unload in the rain and take the trailer back to Sarah and then drop it there .. Of course visibility in the farm was restricted because all the lights are hidden by the horsebox and what I said about the visibility of the vectra before!!

But managed to get it into a safe area out of the way - though it was not the best example of trailer reversing I have ever done - just saying!!

Too dark for pictures

But aching bones!!

Cheers !

29th March 2023 - Paving arrives

Thought for the day :"The gene pool could use a little chlorine"

Rather a wet walk with the dogs - not helped by 'Thena deciding that she wanted to stroll around Wyn's Woods for half and hour while the rain started really tipping down.

Filled the car up and made arrangements to borrow a low loader from Sarah and Dave for tomorrow to pick up some scaffold boards for Susie's polytunnel.
By the time I got back the pallet had been dropped - sadly at the back gate - so had to transport them with the sack truck around to the back by the polytunnel - probably just as well as if they dropped them in the drive I probably would have left them there and they would have been in the way for Easter opening.

All done now - Tomorrow pick up the scaffold Boards..

Cheers !

28th March 2023 - Susie wins Prizes...

Thought for the day :"Charles Dickens walks into a bar and orders a Martini. The barman asks, "Olive or twist?"

So we decided to pop down the the village hall and Susie joined the local gardening club and entered her pencil drawing of Dor and 4 daffodills and a floating hellebore table presentation.

Came back for the evening session to find that she had won First Prize for the daffs and Second Prize for the picture which she later auctioned with proceeds going to the club...

and table decoration at home

Well done Susie...

Ordered the plastic paving for the garden and the polytunnel - looks as though they have a next day delivery option !!!

Cheers !

27th March 2023 - Sizing the raised beds in the Polytunnel

Thought for the day :"I smile because I don't know what is going on"

A glorious day today - and sitting out in shirtsleeves!
Walked the dogs and the Yurt is getting the full benefit of the de-humidifier, and getting to be back to where it should be as a guest area...

Getting near to Bluebells and surprised to see that last year on this date we had bluebells actually out - I think this year is slower due to the nasty freeze and frost that we had  - we shall see..

But some new flowers are cropping up everywhere, indeed some of the rhododendrons are actually out (no photos yet)  and an afternoon measuring up the polytunel for 18 planks of 3.9m scaffolding planks ..
and purchase of 140 plastic ground links .. ho hum!

One step at a time !!

Cheers !

26th March 2023 -

Thought for the day :"God must love stupid people; He made so many"

A restful day today - just as well as the clocks went forward and it had very little affect upon our lives - couldn't get up at those ridiculous hours... I mean !!

Walk the dogs and monitored the lower quarter ..

Laburnum is beginning to flower if we escape the frost again
Azaleas are starting
Still no Blue Drops !!

Cheers !

So - finally we have a fully working polytunnel...
