31st May 2021 - Dump, Tipper and Pallets

Thought for the day :"Got an electric shock at a caravan park,  from a static caravan."

Glorious Bank Holiday Monday today - but I had committed to a trip to Llanelli, the dump, and to show someone around the house in case they were interested before it went to the estate agent on Thursday.

Cleared the carpet from the basement, and the greenery from the front of the house and a spring from a mattress that we found in the grounds at Ffynnon Wen - so took it back to get to the dump.

Also managed to get the Honda Tipper to Paul in Llanelli to see if he can fix it. Managed to "adult" and remove the tipper mechanism. It was easier to get it off the trailer at Llanelli with his engine lift ...  I could have done with the to get it onto the trailer.

Did the trip to the dump. Loaded up the trailer with pallets and some trellis and spare wood....

And made it safely home !!

On the way I popped into Morrisons for some makings..

And so Susie had a Pinocolada with her game of Gin Rummy this evening . We can't be in Crete at the Galley Bar - but we can still enjoy oursleves..

In other news, yesterday I mentioned Car Crash Steve and his particular art form

- here are some more satire pictures..

Stored here for posterity...

And with that - Cheers !

30th May 2021 - Picket Fencing and a splash of colour

Thought for the day :"The Chip shop I go to still wrap up meals in newspaper. Yesterday I got a Plaice in The Sun."

Sunday and a day in the unexpected sun.
So it was a day to carry on with the Picket Fence - but first I needed to clear the tunnel so that I had a proper work space and had decided that the book cases should hang on the walls so that I can use them for display and holding tools in the short term... will have to record that one tomorrow  as I forgot to take a picture.

Meanwhile, Susie has been weeding and planting in the terrace..  Holyhocks and Delphiniums and Lobelia.

But back to the picket fencing - this is the side section with a small gate ...

Gate and along the Tanner Bank

Bottom section along the river path

and Tolly sits and watches

and this is what he can see

While Susie catches more fish in the river..

Fencing from the other angle

and a selection of the colours in the garden..

A busy day and quite a hard day in the sun - but no-one is complaining
Time for Antiques Road Show and Country File....

In other news - I discovered someone called Cold War Steve - an incredible artist / satirist

Today Boris Married - in Westminster Cathedral even though he had been married twice before
but this was Steve's view... excellent - keep looking at the detail!!

Cheers !

29th May 2021 - Banquet Set - Vollsanger

Thought for the day :"Optician said I needed glasses. Rubbish! Had four this evening and things have got even more blurry."

For some reason Facebook no longer seems to have access to Notes written in the past.
Strangely this came up on my memories - and you can access it but cannot find it on the actual page!!
Luckily I put it onto a blog before

In other news, it started bright but cloudy, a small amount of sun as I unloaded the trailer and the sun that was meant to arrive at 5pm totally failed to show up - but was replaced with quite heavy rain!

So managed to empty the trailer and stack everything in the tunnel and move the trailer.
Looking fairly clear ..
Visited Vic today and he was very bright - indeed raced to us on his walker and was clearly pleased to see us . Still gets difficult to hold a conversation after 20 minutes or so and he became more anxious that the door was locked (we were in the lobby for our visit). Bought him a new electric razor, and Nick, one of the carer's, said that he had been searching everywhere for the old one that we had taken away as it was broken.
all in all a good day.

Susie has been clearing the docks form the lupin beds and I have to start on the picket fences again soon so that she can get on with the planting. No pictures today.

Chickens are growing fast - cannot believe how much they eat!
Peacock eggs are in the incubator - need a few more days before we can candle and see it they are viable.

Thought we had our first car boot sale and chicken market in Bwlch y Groes tomorrow.
However seems that it was last Sunday instead and that it was flooded out and cancelled .
So can look at other plans tomorrow.

Cheers !

28th May 2021 - Mirrored Wardrobes are heavy !!

Thought for the day :"Anybody interested in a platonic relationship? I'm asking for a friend."

Llanelli again today - and the wardrobes are not in the back of the trailer together with everything that we wanted to bring from No 41 except the Harmonium, Piano and Chest Freezer.

Another trip to cut the carpets in the basement up and take them to the dump. Also the grass and ivy has all been cleared form the front of the house. We are getting there slowly.

Estate Agent on Thursday.

While I was away Susie planted her Hostas down by the dog plunge pool.

Sadly, 'Thena managed to pull her over when she saw a squirrel when out walking - the dog that is - not Susie!
Damaged her knee - hoping that it gets better soon...

Another day done ...

Cheers !

27th May 2021 - Trailer Clearing ..

Thought for the day :"Welcome to Assumptions Group. I think we all know why we're here."

What a lovely sunny day!!
Susie was in Llanelli for a funeral with the Choir so I was left unsupervised in the grounds....
The electricity was off from 9am to 2pm so when I woke up I was unsure what the time was - and panicked slightly because it was rubbish day and I needed to put the bags out and the food bins.

No really knowing if I had missed them - I took 'Thena up the land to see if the bags were still hanging at Felin Ganol, to see if the collection had been already - it hadn't.. So I had a chat with Johnny and came back...

And having put it off as long as I could, and with a jam sandwich as there was no electricity for a proper breakfast - I started on the Trailer!!!

So the pictures are not uploading - will try again later

But the Trailer is now empty
There is still room in the trailer awning !!

And the lawns are cut again - and it started raining when I finished

Have a squirrel

And so - pizza Thursday - Cheers !
(and a bottle of Rioja)

Cheers !
and no photo !

26th May 2021 - Dahlias and Danglers

Thought for the day :"Never buy a cheap violin... It could be a fiddle!

A touch of sun for a change. Managed to empty the small trailer and drive the large one into the drive, though the marks on the driveway have gone so was guesswork where to leave it - and 1237 point turn to get the car extricated safely - it is very tight, but it allows Susie to get to her funeral tomorrow and I will be able to empty the trailer..

Meanwhile, Susie has been  doing some planting..

The Dahlia Bed is finished

And the greenhouse is flourishing

And some room behind the kitchen opposite Meerkat Mountain has an area which will hold some more dahlias..

Maybe we need some more compost !

In other news, Vera called in. Sadly I think I gave her a bit of a shock as I was sitting on the bottom of the bed after my shower cutting my toe nails when she came passed the window !!!
A panic call to Susie as I hid behind a wardrobe as a rather startled lady with a stick retreated sharply...
She came back saying that she had seen nothing !!  Hmm ! Oh well. I thought we were safe with people calling in via the back door .. but sadly Vera could not manage the steps so came the long way.
That was why we put a pull bell at the archway - but wasn't used.

But she was bringing hte local Welsh Language paper where we had made page 5.

Luckily she was able to give us a translation..
Thank you Vera!

And it was warm enough for a lager on the veranda overlooking the river.. For a short while!
And we are trying our first night without the fire on in the Kitchen.
We will light the one in the living room because we can and it looks good - but we may be getting a warm stretch soon - hopefully ...

And that is the news from Lake Woebegone ....
Cheers !
