4th September 2014 - Of Planes and Presidential Speeches

Thought for the day: "Been seeing a therapist for my kleptomania. It isn't helping as much as I hoped, but I take something of value away from every session..."

Somewhere in the sky - one of these planes is the one I am looking for....

So...  Waiting in Heathrow Airport for the "Americans" to arrive.
Wishing I had a sign that read "GODOT". It would be  a delight to stand at the arrivals gate along with all the other taxi drivers and couriers, with a sign that implied I was waiting for "GODOT"

Maybe next time.
Plane times seem to be working well - with a landing 25 minutes early. Landed at 13.36. The signs say that it is likely to be an hour from arrival to appearance at the gate - and though it is a while - I recall that the walk from terminal five is about the same distance that 'Thena the Labrador would enjoy for a romp around Burry Port..

The journey up was pretty uneventful, though there were so many bridges with policemen and women looking bored along the motorway. Convoys of motorcycles and police vans - I am sure that now is the time to commit crime across England and Wales as there cannot be many police officers left to man the fort....

Still thinking of options for the return journey. Google and BBC Traffic show that there are big delays in the roadworks at Bridgend but are not showing any delays in Newport and Cardiff where the NATO summit is being held. On the other hand - we will be likely to reach the Bridge at rush hour and attempt to go through the major security area at peak times - both areas normally nose to tail in normal times....

Option to travel up through Gloucester and back along the Heads of the Valleys - but the roadworks through that area are also creating daily congestion - and they may well be used as an alternative route for those avoiding the M4 - so will see what time we get there..

Third option is to go via Gloucester and then cut up over Brecon and back down through Ystradgynlais through the country. Adds an hour onto the journey but may well avoid greater delays....

Plane arrived at 13.43 ...

Short stay car parking prices are frightening now...  £3 for half an hour and then it goes up exponentially!!!...

Signs say that there is 45 minutes of free Wi Fi - so I will see how easy it is to connect......
Yup - seemed to manage that....
14:12  Bags Arriving...
That seemed quite quick really.....  Have the arrivals gate in my sight so should see them when they come through....
Didn't!!   Still watching for the "Bags Delivered" sign and they are with me!!!
Ho Hum....

8pm - Home again !!
Seems that there was no delay at all on the the motorway - good thing that we were talking so much that I missed all of the alternative routes that I was planning...

Meanwhile, my friend Roger is posting about Mr Obama in Rogerstone on his Welsh visit to a school..

"Today has been a remarkable day in the history of Rogerstone with the President of the USA and our prime minister visiting a local school. It's the primary school near where Asda used to be, and we're privileged to have a transcript of the Presidents speech.

" My fellow Ameri....er, my fellow Welshy people, I cannot tell you what a pleasure and an honour it is for you to welcome me here to Welsh Wales in the valleys and this school near where Asda used to be. To stand here with my great friend and fellow leader of the free world Dave Cameroon bringing light to your otherwise dreary world as you walk back from the mines singing Come Rhona and Colon Land. As my illustrious former leader of the free world KFC...er JVC....er JFK, yep that's it, JFK once said 'Ich binn eine Welshy person'. For yes, I am part Welsh.

Family legend says my great great grandma had a bit of Welsh in her back in 'ye olden days' as you English put it, so that makes me almost a cousin of the King of Wales, Lord Charles of Cornwall. So watch your crown, sir (only joking, yeh right). Today I have visited Newport and marvelled at your town centre. This has come as a lesson to us all as to the result of nuclear war and what might happen, so it's fingers off the button for now. In conclusion I would like to say that Tom Jones is a really top guy, and we're practically related even though I'm Irish. At least that's I told them when I was in Hireland. God bless Americ.....er, God help England and the wonderful people of this town of Wales, amen."

Sounds legit to me!!!
Must be time for a glass of Chateau 41....
