7th September 2021 - Giraffes, Puppies, and Taverns

Thought for the day :"I saw a Scottish man carrying an enormous colander. He said “It’s massive...” "

Glorious sunny day and a small puppy!
And of course we needed a chewy toy for Toby - as the things we had were not sufficient for his teething - really ! and that meant a trip to Pets and Ponies...  and they have Giraffes !!
Um - Giraffes were a silly idea but Kajsa left us donation in an envelope for the "Giraffe Fund" and I felt a little committed once she did that. Of course Susie decided that Dinosaurs could be acceptable (that was unexpected as well) but not Giraffes .. until she decided to get a puppy ..  and so it seems that I am allowed a giraffe after all - if I don't ask how much she paid for the puppy!

And so a trip to Horeb...

First step of Giraffic Park ...

In other news...

I know it is a couple of days out - but I had not previously heard of this bit of Llanelli history

The schoolchildren's strikes of 1911

On 5th September 1911, pupils of Bigyn School in Llanelli walked out in sympathy with a boy who they considered had been unfairly disciplined by a teacher. The students paraded the streets and visited other schools which resulted in pupils from New Dock, Lakefield and Old Road Schools coming out in solidarity. This was one of a series of UK-wide strikes by schoolchildren in at least 62 towns and cities demanding an end to corporal punishment and for shorter school hours. The schoolchildren's strikes followed a summer of workers' industrial disputes including the National Railway Strike of 1911, where mass picketing action at Llanelli railway station had been brutally suppressed by the police.

Meanwhile - some puppy piccies ..

And of course - it was cooler in the Tavern - another day of work in Tavern Progress..

Getting there...

Cheers !
