29th February 2016 - Leap Year - LARP Year.. I wrestle with the concept

Thought for the day:" It is better to waste one’s youth than to do nothing with it at all."

So, one of the those days that only comes around every four years - February 29th. A lady in Sue's choir, who is one of the older members, was celebrating today - as she is officailly 18, her birthday falling on February 29th and only celebrating every four years .. A person who is born on February 29 may be called a "leapling"

Meanwhile in other news - I have sterted looking at the pictures from LARP CON ..

I was never a great fan of Wrestling - though I will admit I recall Giant Haystacks and Big Daddy in their prime, but I think I could grow to enjoy some parts ..

However, it seems as you get older you are able to take up different interests ..

Life can be really rough sometimes...

Cheers

25th February 2016 - Head in the Book - it is all a matter of degree

Thought for the day :"Sometimes I take a bath 'cos it is hard to drink wine in the shower"

Was playing with some ideas today as I thought about the LARP CON awards for the weekend..
this one popped into mind ...

Meanwhile I am trying to get my head around the third degree ceremony - it should be easy - I have done it many times before - however at the moment it does not seem to want to stick - but I will continue muttering around the house - driving the dog crazy ...    But it will all come out int he wash I am sure...

Managed to break into the Bothy yesterday - getting the door open - brute force appeared to manage best - I tried finesse and skill and tools - but in the end the mechanism was all doing what it should but the door would not open. So, will have to put the fridge back in place and tidy up - but may do that in the morning before heading up to Leicester for the award ceremony ....

So - back to the book ...
But I enjoyed this one...

24th February 2016 - Long Service, Medals and Meads

Thought for the day :"My relationship with whisky is on the rocks.."

A picture popped up in my history on facebook today from 1998 - my Long Service and Good Conduct medal award ceremony...  It is 18 years ago - that is the fightening thing !!! So much changes in such a short time....

It was a good day as I recall ...

Seem to have come a long way since then ...

I'll drink to that ...
And taling of drink I may as well leave this here as well - it is what I have been saying for years - but here is a label that sums it up ...

All it needs is a Green One - but then we do seem to now have a Green Ale... Stonehenge Brewery..

I'll drink to that ...

23rd February 2016 - Daylight Robbery

Thought for the day:"We asked 100 women which shampoo they preferred - The top answer was "how the heck did you get in my bathroom?" "

A fable for the day :...

During a robbery, the bank robber shouted to everyone in the bank: “Don’t move. The money belongs to the State. Your life belongs to you.” Everyone in the bank laid down quietly.
This is called “Mind Changing Concept”
Changing the conventional way of thinking.

When a lady lay on the table provocatively, the robber shouted at her: “Please be civilized! This is a robbery and not a rape!”
This is called “Being Professional”
Focus only on what you are trained to do!

When the bank robbers returned home, the younger robber (MBA-trained) told the older robber (who has only completed Year 6 in primary school): “Big brother, let’s count how much we got.”
The older robber rebutted and said: “You are very stupid. There is so much money it will take us a long time to count. Tonight, the TV news will tell us how much we robbed from the bank!”
This is called “Experience.”
Nowadays, experience is more important than paper qualifications!

After the robbers had left, the bank manager told the bank supervisor to call the police quickly. But the supervisor said to him: “Wait! Let us take out $10 million from the bank for ourselves and add it to the $70 million that we have previously embezzled from the bank”.
This is called “Swim with the tide.”
Converting an unfavorable situation to your advantage!

The supervisor says: “It will be good if there is a robbery every month.”
This is called “Killing Boredom.”
Personal Happiness is more important than your job.

The next day, the TV news reported that $100 million was taken from the bank. The robbers counted and counted and counted, but they could only count $20 million. The robbers were very angry and complained: “We risked our lives and only took $20 million. The bank manager took $80 million with a snap of his fingers. It looks like it is better to be educated than to be a thief!”
This is called “Knowledge is worth as much as gold!”

The bank manager was smiling and happy because his losses in the share market are now covered by this robbery.
This is called “Seizing the opportunity.”

Daring to take risks! So who are the real robbers here?

22nd February 2016 - Dabbling with Dentistry

Thought for the day: "Anyone can get old... all you have to do is live long enough."

Had to go to the dentist today ...  I used to have a bit of trauma in the early days. I was not very healthy in the teeth department while I was younger and dentists in those days looked to take out teeth rather than fix them..  May of the old anaesthetics did not effect very quickly and a trip to the dentist was always full of pain and anguish.   Most of my back teeth are gone, but the front, though uneven, are stilll all mine - though full of fillings - the bottom almost intact ..

However, over the later years my trips have been more about cleaning and getting rid of some tartar...

Did see this little picture... seems a way forward...

Meanwhile - no further pictures from the Ladies Night so trucking on with other stuff....
Cheers!

21st February 2016 - Not many photos showing up ...

Thought for the day:"A man just threw milk at me - how dairy?"

Not much in the way of photos from the Ladies Night as I did not take any myself so I am dependent upon whatever anyone else decides to post..

Not much showing up yet - maybe no-one took any  ..
Oh well
Hall cleared and time for a cup of tea ...   maybe a glass of something later ..

And as a parting thought, ont he day that the political pundits started their campaigns to stay/leave the EU  - I thought I mught share this ....

20th February 2016 - Just a thought

Thought for the day :"If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck… you're drunk - Ducks don't talk !"

Ladies Night - not really ant time for anything else today
Cheers

19th February 2016 - Ladies Nights and Last Minute Plans

Thought for the day: "When it rains, my wife just stands at the window looking kind of sad … Maybe I should let her in .."

Am quite humbled ..   found this in the LARP CON pages today - having been nominated in the Bard of the Year section - the nominations include what people have said ...

Iain Sewell
“This pub running, joke telling, song writing, tale telling gentleman is truly the most fantastic bard any of us have been honoured to encounter.”
“, let's face it he's a legend, you can even find him on youtube and you should... and a green one, and a green one and a green one and they all go tiky tacky and they all look just the same.”
“best bard in the entire world. In any world.”

LARP Awards nomination ..

Meanwhile - back on the theme of Ladies Night, we have been a little disappointed by a series of cancellations at the last minute...  some of which only were found out by random conversation - no attempt to give notice.. As Susie tells me now - I should have just invited all my friends to a Birthday Party and held it in the Hall !!  I would have had a better response..

However - the preparations are completed...

Harlequin

Flower Displays

Columbine

and an evil face ...  Could be the Joker :)

and ready to take over to the hall

tables set
Harlequin theme works quite nicely

Stage area

looking down the Hall

And Columbine oversees nicely..

And so the hall is filling up niceley

Sadly, cannot find the cable for the camera to charge it up - Do not really want to take the big one ..
Oh Well - will find something I suppose...

and Finally
I've not see the new Star Wars film yet - but I have seen enough random posting to enjoy this one ..
 Cheers !

18th February 2016 - Currys, Cardboard and Celebrations

Thought for the day :" You know that little voice in your head that keeps you from saying what you are really thinking - I should probably get one of those..."

And so we get closer to our Ladies night and Susie is in full swing...
Can you see what it is yet ??

The interesting thing of course was popping up to Curry's to see if I could find some cardboard. They were extremely helpful , saying that of course I could have some - and they had some large freezer boxes - I could have one of those.. I proudly marched out with this massive piece of card under my arm - to find out that the little blue car would not fit a piece half the size !!

So, sheepishly I had to take it back to the counter and ask if they could look after it for a while .. They looked a little confused but agreed - they had the Know How I suppose.. And back for the Bothy.. Which should have been simple really - after all it is a long wheel base Mercedes van !! With a jammed side door. Yes - I cannot get into the van without climbing over from the driver's seat ... So Back to Curry's and once more out with the piece of card..

With a little bending and folding - and a little tearing of the box flaps which we would not use anyway ...  A small group of shoppers gathered to watch the strange man with the Origami demonstration in the middle of the car park - but finally got it in and got it home..

And so - with an overhead projector - do you know how hard it is to find acetates these days ?? It is old technology now - everyone uses a laptop to project - no-one worries about the old overheads - so tracing onto laminate sheets was the final answer..

But the end product is worthwhile - what a clever wife I have ..

Meanwhile...  while answering my birthday wishes ...
and the additional 431 later

I found this little gem and enjoyed it - in the same vein as "Ain't seen Ruthin Yet"..

I'm going up to Merthyr..
Cheers !!

17th February 2016 - Sneaking in at the last moment

Thought for the day:"If the question is whisky related - the answer is yes"

So, day after your birthday and a 12 year old Glenfiddich is on the shelf - the sort of thing that could happen to anyone...

Can't really expect a lot on the day after a birthday can you ?? Trip to Cardiff for Principality Mark Lodge and a driver to boot - can't fault it ...   but not really going to get a blog done - oops coming up to midnight ..

Best say Cheers and Goodnight !

15th February 2016 - Building Bricks ...

Thought for the day:" You can't run through a campsite - you can only RAN - because it is past tents"

Here's one for my wife to build - she did such a great job on our garage  - which she thought was the biggest Mecano Set that she had ever seen ... The Lego Style House...

The PopUp House, which can be ordered online, costs between $1,200 and $1,900 per square meter, depending on the quality of the materials and amenities. Once a home is ordered, the firm sends along building instructions (an additional $1,640 fee) and a construction team.

It's completely customizable. "A PopUp House can be whatever you wish it to be: a small and cozy country lodge, an urban two-story house, or a spacious open office," co-founder Corentin Thiercelin tells Tech Insider.

Building a PopUp House is a lot like building with Legos. Each house is made from stacked recyclable wooden panels and insulation blocks, all held together with wood screws.

The prototype measures 1,614 square feet and features an open layout. A kitchen, dining area, and terrace connect to the living room.

It also includes two bathrooms, an office, master bedroom, and two smaller bedrooms.

Currently, PopUp House is only available in France, but Thiercelin says the company plans to expand to the UK and the US. The firm is searching for local architects and home builders to work with PopUp House to make sure that the homes are in line with local building codes.

PopUp House is part of a growing sustainable architecture movement called passive construction. The architecture concept describes homes that are well-designed, low-cost, and energy-efficient. The PopUp House is airtight and watertight, which means it keeps heat locked in.

Well - that is one way of getting a house...
Cheers !
