Rain !! 

Found that the roof had not shut properly on the Volvo - had to empty it out - but it closed properly without additional problem. That was a relief...

Cut the lawns and cut the lower quarter and brought the tents and the rest of the "Sitting in a field" stuff up form the lower quarter - it was easier to use the tractor and trailer than struggle.

Nancy, Erin and TJ arrived this evening and are staying over from now.

Walking the dogs and saw that our tree has grown larger than me 

And the thistle and yellow weed were also large than me 

But not sure I can get much more into the car

and the boot works now

Piet has apparently found a place in the Kunstler Lager

25th July 2024 - Packed

Dry - though sea mist 

Got some Honey today from Afon Mel in New Quay - not cheap but distinctly Welsh for gifts to German Hosts.  Saw the Information boards there and thought I may copy a few facts that I can add into my Spiel when tasting Meads ..

And the Volvo is packed - and to the gunnels it must be said - but there will be a lot less beer wine and Meads on the return trip - must say that the suction bags work excellently for reducing material and costumes.

Just Susie's costumes tomorrow and wellies and food for the journey 

Strange being this far ahead of ourselves though it is helped by having a number of vehicles and having options to slowly stack the vehicle.

24th July 2024 - More preparation

Rain - Surprise Surprise

Walked the dogs with Zephyr  so she knows the routes and 'Thena's propensity to wander off and return unexpectedly.

Travel to Carmarthen to get goodies to take to German Mr Kipling Fans, resources so Susie can try to make a Cawl for the judges at Mythodea.  enough GF goodies for Susie not to starve and some Amstel so she can have a drink without fear of Weiss Bier  (Wheat Beer) 

Still packing and experimenting with the vacuum packing system that seems to be working well 

Rained so could not start packing properly. Hopefully tomorrow as we have a lotto get into a small space!!

23rd July 2024 - Getting the Costume sorted

Rain (not a lot but some) 

New Tyres, three of them needed but we are going for a long journey !!

Also bought mixed corn and chick crumbs for the new chicks, (3 surviving so far)

Put some duck eggs into the incubator to cook while we are away in the hope that we can replenish ou duck flock ...

Walked the dogs this morning dodging the showers - and Susie has been helping to sew my Vollsanger awards back onto a new sash..  silly me - laid them out the wrong way around so Vollsanger will have to start wearing his sash over his left shoulder instead of right - but that would allow me to add a sword to the sash - hmm.. 

Getting on with the packing and completing the list...

Still not sure how I am going to get everything in .. but we shall try

22nd July 2024 - Oil Change and Chickens

Rain

Took the barrels back to Mantle Brewery today and told them that I was taking Cwrw Teifi out to Germany to increase general sales ...

Popped into the auto car parts E & M and picked up a bulb for the Volvo - and even adulted by replacing it myself after pointing out that they had given me the wrong bulb !
Also got an oil filter and tom changed the oil for me - learned how to do it thought not sure I would have the tools to take the filter out.  For record - Oil Change 136,000 miles.

Stopped in at the Teifi Tyres , but have to wait until tomorrow to replace two of the tyre and a further one is wearing badly so probably three tyres.

Susie was working on her costume, and Jeff came around with his friends to see Fabio and walk around the gardens - he also wanted to take a photo of Pan in the spring, he made it in 2000 - 24 years ago ...

Didn't get much chance to do much. 

Meanwhile 4 chicks became 3 (one is hiding under the electric chicken)

But flowers are popping up in the garden

and hidden beneath the delphiniums is Blackie with at least 6 eggs ..

21st July 2024 - Lost another Duck

Mainly Dry 

 

Lost a duck today   -  Looks as though it drowned in the pool - which is very sad - possibly over-treaded by the Drake  - no other signs ..

Peacocks in the incubator are not viable - but we have three chicks from the Hens, and they seem fairly strong...

Started on the packing - trying to work out what to take and how to fit it into the car. 

Also found a box from the Bothy - with Mr V's "Stuff"

Fabio was in fine spirits

Cleared the Ducks and took a  short break to clear the Balsam from the Paddock

Susie carried on with the Jam making ...

20th July 2024 - One week to Germany

Thought for the day :"New Medical Definitions : Coma - a punctuation mark"

Rain - a lot of it

So instead of working the homestead, I decided to print some labels for Susie who is busy making Black Currant Jam to take to Germany as gifts....

 

 Also received the Charity Cheque and added a logo and name to it 

A least we can do proper cheque presentations now ...

So A few memories of Germany..

Looking forward to the trip ...

19th July 2024 - Driveway cleared

Thought for the day :"New Medical Definitions : Colic - Like a sheep dog"

Rain (light but definitely wet - meanwhile it was 31 degrees in London)

Did the early turn this morning and walked the dogs earlier than usual, leaving me time to get on with the clearing of the driveway.  Pond still leaking - though Susie thinks that she knows where the leak is - we may have to get some more putty paste.... and managed to cut the lawns before the rain started...

Apparently it is due to pour tomorrow - we shall see

Went to Carmarthen yesterday for the St Thomas of Accon meeting and saw that Nancy's car was on the front of the garage as I left at 3pm - but was inside the garage by 10 pm on my return. I kept fingers crossed and indeed had a phone call this evening that the car was ready - Bill was £702 which I thought was a lot better than I was expecting - there was 8 hours labour in there and of course the full VAT addition which pushes the costs....

But - the car is all back with us tonight and ready for collection 

That has been a long couple of months wait ...
