7th October 2022 - Dentist and still negative Covid

Quote of the day : "...if I was stranded on a desert island what one book would I bring - How to build a Boat" - Steven Wright

Early start as we had the Dentist today and it takes 3 months to get an appointment (other than emergency). But sore throat and tickly cough meant another Covid test - clearly negative!!
News says that there is a 25% increase especially in the over 70's- but still negative so thinking I have a standard cold with a touch of sore throat.

Passed by No 41 and they have painted the outside and there is parquet flooring across the floor. The windows appear to have been repaired and the walls are all re-plastered.

Called in on Charlies' on the way home but it seems that they do not "do" Halloween they are all set up for Christmas already!!

Popped in the Range and picked up a couple of items but I think that we will have to construct our own ghostly decorations for the Tavern Weekend.

Tipped down with rain again and so the dogs did not get a walk - but they came out in the Vektra and Toby jumped back into the back on his own - though he sat and shivered most of the way.

But when we got back the sun peeped out for a while .. so took a couple of photos for the Autumn record..

In other news - Truss is having a rough time ...

But auditioning for Halloween we have Webster in the Bath

Cheers !!

6th October 2022 - Duck House Finished - testing for COVID

Quote of the day: The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly and lie about your age" - Lucille Ball

Finished the Duck House - chicken wire stretched under the base and along the bottom of the frame so as to help to prevent the incursion of rats or other predators.

Again a mix of sun and rain for the day.

Toby managed to get out of the estate today again - yesterday he saw the dogs of our friends on the road and made his way through to the road and then made his way back - but today a stranger went past and kindly put him onto a lead and walked him down to Johnny and Kay before coming back to us.
Luckily the collar still had the name and phone number - but sadly the kind person did not have a signal on their mobile to get through. So we drove up and down the lanes for an hour while we waited.  But all well in the end

But tomorrow we will have to try and find where he gets out - and do something about it.

In other news - my sore throat and cough are still there and so I did another test which seemed to be negative.   Later check by Susie shows a very faint line under the positive. Will have to check tomorrow morning before we go to the Dentist.

There was a rainbow in this picture but didn't show up ..

Susie was collecting apples (that 'Thena had not munched!)

Still blooming

Cheers !

5th October 2022 - Dodging the rain

Quote for the day : "Knowledge is like underwear. It is useful to have it, but not necessary to show it off" - Bill Murray

Thought for a while that the rain may stay off and indeed there was a period of about half an hour when we were able to sit out on the patio and it was pretty warm...

Popped down to the duck house and assembled the door - I think it will fit and Susie decided to go and pick her courgettes before they went over and so it started pouring down !!

It did clear a little later but by then my boots were off and it was too much trouble to go out again - tomorrow is another day.

But autumn is on the way ..

In other news - we learned today that Allie is not able to complete her chemotherapy, it is making her too ill and so she will be hoping to return home for palliative care - Tom is trying to get her home tomorrow but she is very weak ....   sad times ....

In other news - I have picked up an annoying tickling cough so tested for covid today - a clear negative but will keep an eye on it - probably an allergy again.

In political news..

Cheers !

4th October 2022 - Rainy Day Blues

Quote for the day :"Whatever you do always give 100% - unless you are donating blood" - Bill Murray

Was a little rainy today - so managed to take the dogs for a walk early when it was just spitting and hiding under the trees managed to get home without getting too wet - dogs were pretty damp!!

Watched "This England" the Kenneth Brannagh interpretation of Boris Johnson and the early pandemic years...  It was an eye opener - and more interesting I was able to track some of the story and fact check against my own daily blog. It is clear that we are forgetting much of the life style that we adopted during this period and how quickly it all came together.

Meanwhile, Liz Truss is at the Conservative Party Conference and U turning so fast that she is spinning,  today was the back track on the 45% tax reduction, tomorrow looks like welfare raises not in line with inflation...

Didn't manage any more of the Duck house - maybe tomorrow!

Today it is generally reported that Putin has moved a nuclear train into Ukraine - thought there is plenty to suggest caution as to the reality of this claim or whether it is just  flexing of muscles. Having read my blog from two years ago I think it may be valid to record some of the current affairs again on a daily basis....

Ukraine appears to be taking more territory back while Russia is claiming that they have annexed 4 areas which seem to be no longer in their possession.

And so ...
Cheers !

3rd October 2022 - Lawns and the Duck House

Quote for the day :"Even if you are on the right track - you will get run over if you just sit there" - Will Rogers

Managed to start on the duck house today ...

But managed to cut the lawns as well - will probably rain tomorrow

Cheers !
