7th September 2016 - And Back Again

Thought for the day:"A woman was being sentenced for bludgeoning her husband to death with his guitar collection.. When the judge asked "First Offender?" the reply was "No - first a Gibson - then a Fender"
[an oldie but a goodie]

Back from the South Coast after a quick whistle stop trip ...  Weather fine and dog enjoyed chasing the ball in the back garden...

Oh - and Happy Birthday to the Severn Bridge which is 50 years old ...

Back when it opened, the cost to cross it in a car was 2d 6d - that's about 12.5p in modern money. And if you slot that figure into an inflation calculator, in today's money the toll should have risen to 95p.
The aim was to pay for the construction and maintenance of the second Severn Crossing. But, adjusted annually, using a formula based on the Retail Price Index, the cost of using the bridge has increased significantly since the Second Severn Crossing opened in 1996
The bridge cost £8m to build. Meanwhile, pre-tax profits at Severn River Crossing plc, rose from £29.4 million in 2014 to £38.8 million last year.

Back to reality now - and a mountain of paperwork and lots of photos to sort...
No peace for the wicked really ...

cheers !

4th September 2016 - Chickens and Chuckles

Thought for the day:" How many drugs do I have to do to pass the drug test? "

Sunday and we have seen a lot of flooding over the weekend - not with us - we seem to be safe even with a basement but Burry Port and Pembrey and police warnings for Ammanford roads..
Of course - it is Empire weekend - and that would account for the weather - which is sad for them as Curious Pastimes had such a glorious week ...

Going to eat a large Sunday Lunch with family today - with one of our Chickens - and it is a biggie...  Most of the veg would come from the Plotment but with the weather yesterday it really was not a day for digging potatoes - so we will just pretend...

Meanwhile - no photos today - will give it a day before doing Vollsanger's View ...   but there area few that I can add without processing .... so here we go

and there you have it
Cheers

3rd September 2016 - Charity begins in LARP

Thought for the day: "I squat down, wrap my arms around my legs, tuck my head between my knees and lean forward. Cos that's just how I roll."

A wet Saturday so an opportunity to do some photos form the weekend as a cunning ruse to avoid doing the mountain of paperwork that has grown up over the last five weeks ...
But on this occasion, the photos are of the Thursday Night at renewal - a time of jollity and fun as well as a sad tribute to the passing of Dee - a trader well known in many systems and the solemn planting of a tree in her memory..

But in the early evening, some gathered together to hold and auction and fund raising schemes for a charity being set up by one of the players, who sadly suffered the tragedy of a still born baby, Natalie over the Christmas period - and found that instead of presents and fun, they had to arrange funeral and find the expenses for that instead...  Now a charity scheme called Born Still - Still Born, a number of peopel decided to raise money ....

Here are some pictures from the album...

well done to all
Cheers !

2nd September 2016 - And sleep ....

Thought for the day: "The moral high ground is all very well, but with my vertigo it looks like it will be the immoral valley bottom again"

Been a bit of a rush for the last month - not a lot of rest and recuperation. Mainly rushing from one thing to another with a modicum of pain and discomfort.
Got to the doctor for the results of the MRI today and confirmation that it is a slipped disc and some other bits of problem that means that he is sending me to a specialist - that may be a fair wait of course....

"Discovertebral degenerative changes throughout the lumbar region, most marked at the L2-3 and L5-S1 levels where there are endplate changes and the discs are narrowed.

At the L4-5 level, there is a broad based posterior disc bulge, which together with osteoarthritis and hypertrophied facet joints is causing a moderate canal stenosis, further excaerbated by the presence of a joint ganglion encroaching on the canal from the right side.

There may be some compormise of the cauda equina at this level.

No other potential neurosurgical target has been shown"

Whatever that means ...

In other news - it seems my camera was not in focus for much of the weekend - so many of my photos are not up to scratch...

However - Pete Scott managed to get the photos I did not manage

Will work on my own ones over the weekend....
Cheers!

1st September 2016 - Where did August Go ?

Thought for the day:" I read today that a dwarf had been pickpocketed - I thought 'how can anyone stoop that low!' "

August was really an "off the grid" month - with not much in the way of internet or telephone. Got back yesterday afternoon to find that the email server was not working and after examination it seems that they have changed the Port controls - so 1747 emails popped into my in-tray and many of them required answers - most of them are in the pending tray or the "really urgent" tray - but at least they are sorted ...

Not had time to transfer photos from the cameras - maybe later today - though I have bounced back into a double lodge meeting and lots of issues regarding people and posts - ho hum - so much for the holiday ...  There is also a mountain of paperwork to sort - as I have put it all off in the weeks coming up to my Germany trip - so I have no idea what is in there .....

May get back to this post later - but otherwise - Cheers !
