30th April 2024 - Athelstan in Pembroke and Car Marathons

Thought for the day :"Don't you hate it when you see an old person and realize that you were in the same class at school"

Another rainy day and a day for a lot of walking.
Discovered after the Volvo had  all the brakes fixed and the shock absorber which was causing us all the noise and not the roof mechanism,  we discovered that the MOT had expired back in March. Not sure why the road tax still renewed but I suppose the Government are more interested in taking our money  regardless...

But first thing I took the Volvo to the garage for its MOT.   And walked back !!
I then walked the Dogs!!
I then went to get some peacock (cat) food, Layers Pellets for the Ducks / Chickens, Mixed Corn, and three more bags of Coal ...

But 2pm, the Car had passed its MOT ( just needed a light bulb) and had to walk to pick it up ...

So - Couch to 5K nothing !!!

But this afternoon it was Athelstan at Court of Penfro in Pembroke Dock, doing a large amount of the ritual and a lot of organisation - but it went well and we have another candidate.

So no photos today ..

Just a thought and a cartoon

29th April 2024 - Back on the medical run

Thought for the day :"I'm reading a book about sandpaper it's a work of friction"

Mixed day really.
Susie went for her blood tests following her recent call with the Doctor last Friday, but suffering form her headaches again and Blood Pressure once again went off the scale.
Trip to Carmarthen for the Priory Out-patient where they once again looked after her very well. X-rays, CT Scan, blood tests, a a full MOT but no real answer so she is back this evening again.

Rained all day - so popped into the shops while waiting.

Garden still in bloom - but not much time spent there

In other news : German Bombing of Wales

On 29th April 1941 the village of Cwmparc in the Rhondda Valley was subjected to a bombing raid from the Luftwaffe which killed 28 people.
It is believed that anti-aircraft fire had forced the German pilots to divert from their planned target at Swansea and had dropped their bombs randomly. Among the fatalities were three evacuees from London, the Jameson family, two boys and two girls, who had been staying at 14 Treharne Street which was one of the houses hit.
For more information visit the Cwmparc blitz memorial project facebook page.

28th April 2024 - Sunny Day making Jam

Thought for the day :"Julius Caesar never said 'Thank you ' in his entire life. But then he couldn't speak English"

Unexpected sun in the baggage area....
Nice visit from Nancy and Torren today and Torren made Jam with Oma

I worked on some designs for his labels

Meanwhile Nancy and I walked the dogs and 'Thena disappeared for about 20 minutes but we had fun playing pooh Dogs  - it is like pooh stick but you throw a stick for the dog one side and look to see which comes out the other side of the Bridge first. We tried Pooh sticks first but there was an eddy under the bridge and my stick kept on floating upstream which was not fair !!

Meanwhile - there was sun on the Patio ...

Levelled off the picnic table by the Cherry Tree..  Looks better now

and New Doris took up residence

Cheers !

27th April 2024 - Growing Veg and stuff

Thought for the day :"I recently launched a series of books aimed at teenagers - got three of them"

Today was the installation meeting of Rhys ab Thomas Chapel No4 in the Commemorative Order of Thomas of Acon, and one I have been working on for a while as I was installing my successor and they landed me with a candidate as well so just a little pressure for a ceremony that I Do not know very well at all.

But it all went without a hitch and a very nice cold meat salad lunch at the Carmarthen Masonic Hall.

Back via Easy Sofa and picked up Doris II and a plinth for her. Will install her into the Temple of Doris tomorrow.  Too heavy to do tonight - she needs to go on a diet I think !!! Will need the sack truck to get her there.

Meanwhile - another little look around the gardens and Susie has been busy in the Polytunnel and the Greenhouse.

All in all the Garden in showing up nicely to the colour

Meanwhile the gate is still defeating 'Thena - though you can see the teeth marks on the bottom where she has been biting to try and open it

Cheers

26th April 2024 - Cars and a new Doris

Thought for the day :"Made a chicken salad today apparently they prefer mixed corn"

Rain 87 : Dry 29

I know it was raining as the Landie has no windscreen wipers and I had to go to Llanelli to the dentist today as the Volvo was in Wyn's Garage and the Vectra was with tom for MOT.

So Dental trip for me - Susie was unwell with her cold and bad neck pains and could not take the landie for a 3 hour return journey.

But by the end of the day we have the Volvo back, Cost £520 but that was all the disks and all the pads, and the shock absorber (not the roof mechanism at all) and new callipers on the hand brake ( never used it - it is an automatic with parking brake).
Sadly found out when they checked that the MOT ran out in March !! So now booked in for new MOT on Tuesday - at least the brakes should be fine !!!

Vectra got through with minimal action costing £100 - a bargain really .
Still a good bus - going back on the road on the 1st May

But n the way back had an opportunity to pop in on easy sofas to look at the statues..

We have looked the options and think we have a new "Doris" can you guess which ??

Preparation for tomorrow's meeting of St Thomas of Acon - where I will be installing y successor into the Chair and greeting a new member ...
Then head down to get the Tuesday meeting of Athelstan on the road...

Cheers !

25th April 2024 - Garden Work

Thought for the day :"Got a couple of sock puppets for sale. Anyone want to take them off my hands."

Rain 86 : Dry 29

Susie weeds the bottom rose beds, and adds some horse manure fertiliser and bark
May need some more bark to finish the job.

Meanwhile I am down in the paddock again with the Chain Saw and cutters to reduce the next trolley full of wood for drying ..

Meanwhile, at the other end of the garden, more white stones are put around the mermaid - Toby checks that they are in the right position

Will make it easer to strim across the section - sadly the strimmer seems to have died a death
Not sure if it is the batteries not strong enough or the motor seizing..  will look again tomorrow

Susie has a bad neck again - went to Doctor due to some swelling on the neck and will have bloods and a new ultra sound Monday and when we can get it. Early night with a heat pack. Not sure if it is the coughing or whether she has pulled it again doing the gardening ..

The new gate seems to have defeated 'Thena getting at the eggs in the new Coop, though she has spent a long time trying to get through the gate - under, around, through.

Still working on the ritual for installing my successor  into the Chair of St Thomas of Acon on Saturday, and the ritual for Athelstan on Tuesday.

Cheers !

24th April 2024 - Gates and Gardens

Thought for the day :"I do all my own stunts, but not intentionally"

Rain 86 : Dry 28
Bag 26

It was sort of spitting today as I walked the dog and got attacked by Ned and Ted, but as the rest of the day has been pretty sunny I will give it the benefit of the doubt.

But evening stroll as we put the chicks to bed (all went in fairly easily tonight for the first time)

Fairies

Kiwi MAY have flowers this year - these seem like flower buds..

Coloured heather

Susie put her bark onto the Rose hed

More colour

Mermaids

Doris working very well with the solar pump.

Susie admiring her garden

No Idea - just liked the flowers

House in Bloom

New gate seems to be besting 'Thena at the moment - spent half an hour trying to paw it open, push through it, belly flop under it - think we are secure (So Far)

In other news - this popped up on Youtube - Love Ryan..  Over the rainbow -yn gymraeg

Also see a tribute here

Finally found Napolean and the retreat from Fishguard "Mam!"

Cheers !
