30th September 2023 - Compost and an invulnerable Phone

Thought for the day :"A hive without an exit is unbelievable"

Rain again - but still decided to walk the dogs and check along the lower quarter.
Having to use the dehumidifier in the Yurt.

But the bubble spring is really clear after Susie used her waders...

But decided to fix the trailer - pump the tyres up and get it working ...

And so it is off to Sarah's to attack the Compost Tip..

Mistakenly I put my phone onto the tyre when I arrived intending to take another photo at the end - after a cup of tea forgot all about it and drove off !!
Luckily - though it looks as though the tyre drove over it - the phone was unbroken -
so a rushed drive back to the farm and rescued it ..

and that was about enough for one day ..

Cheers !

29th September 2023 - Peacocks and Flagpoles

Thought for the day. Dark is spelled with a 'K' not a 'C', because you cannot C in the dark"

A busy day of "stuff".
Popped into Newcastle Emlyn for the Susie's prescription and we popped up to Chris and Kate but he was working and Kate was off to a Cake Sale - so we borrowed 50p for a skirt that Susie had seen in a second hand shop and thought Erin would like, and bought some plants for the springs...

Meanwhile - getting the Volvo ready for sale so cleaned it out and took some photos

Going to miss her - but cannot afford to run three machines and the Vectra is more practical.

In other news - put up a new Flag Pole

In other news - the first Peacock is going strong - but no sign of the others yet

And the other task today was to fix the lighting in the lower quarter - the wind had done some damage but had to find where the break was and fix it - all done with Toby's help !

And 'Thena just hides herself in the fast growing grass
Hope the John Deere comes home soon

Cheers

28th September 2023 - Peacocks Hatching

Thought for the day :"Feeling a bit fed up and been comfort eating all day... Now my breath smells of fabric conditioner."

Busy day - dodging the showers though not as bad as it has been ...

FIRST PEACOCK EGG HATCHES !!!

No 1 is out and doing well and seems to be strong - sadly the other two have not pipped yet - so we may be looking after a single bird again ....

Can't really see at the moment but it is in there.

Also took a trip down the Donkey Trail - No real trees down though some drooping

In other news, rewired the Chicken Enclosure so the electric Chicken and heat lamp can work in the brooding area...  cleared the brooding hutch and also the duck enclosure  which was its usual Thursday mess.

Found that the lights in the lower quarter have suffered damage and will need some fixing tomorrow.

New toy arrived - a hand held Cajon - saw one at the weekend with one of the other Bards and decided that it was something that was needed ..

Also received my new strap ratchet which I hope will allow me to adjust the kitchen waste pipe - trying to learn to be a plumber as well !!  We shall see..

Also arriving today is the new Flag pole - will put that up tomorrow

So a busy day. Decided that we would sell the Volvo - can't afford to keep three cars and the Vectra is more suitable though older.

Yesterday - filed the Dormant accounts for the Crimson Moon and the confirmation certificate .
Keeping on top of the paperwork slowly.

Cheers !

27th September 2023 - Crab Apple Jelly and Cider

Thought for the day :"No-one ever told me that I was beautiful, I am so glad that I am surrounded by honest people"

Tipping down with rain - but no sign of Storm Agnes yet so took the dogs for a walk - they enjoyed despite the rain ...

Maybe should have cleared the gutters

Filed Accounts for Crimson Moon and Confirmation statement which cost £13 - seems to have gone down from previous years of £15 but since we don't really do much with it that is a benefit ...

Susie busy with her crab apple jelly and the Cider is spouting out like Quatermass. She has braved the storm as well and brought in the cooking apples so we will probably have an apple crumble this evening with our fish pie...

Cheers

26th September 2023 - Mending Perches for the Peacocks

Thought for the day :"Bought a car, 50,000 miles on the clock and came with a pound of butter, 6 rashers of bacon and a pint of milk on the back seat. It was a Lada"

Tipping down with rain early today - and apparently Storm Agnes is on its way tomorrow.

But by 11am it was bright enough to walk the dogs and get back to the homestead.

But next job was to sort Fabio and Zsa Zsa out - their perches had collapsed and the undergrowth was too much for the coop.

Also managed to pull the old pallets that were a risk to life and limb near the gates and replaced them with a piece of stable rubber - which was very messy - but better than keeping a hiding place for the rats.

No photos of that - the gloves were too full of muck and mud to handle the camera...

In other news - the three peacock eggs that are in the incubator seem to be viable still and this week we will be turning the incubator down and off so that they can hatch.
So it was necessary to look at the brooding area in the chicken enclosure. The flooring had rotted but had not gone through, but was risky enough for rats to enter - though I am unsure where they are coming through the caging - it will take another examination and some more wiring.

Found a photo of the September Tavern Evening

Cheers !

25th September 2023 - Candleston and Power

Thought for the day :"Sad news, my obese parrot died in its sleep. I’m a bit tearful but if I’m honest, it’s a great weight of my shoulder."

Savings per month from June

Seems we have made a saving of  £550 so far this year - which is £135 per month

And some photos from the weekend

Cheers !
