24th June 2017 - Of Soft Drinks and Songs...

Thought for the day: "Keep the dream alive: Hit the snooze button"

Weather turning this morning - so Summer is probably over for another year. Personally I can take or leave the heat - as long as I have some decent air conditioning. Never been one for sitting on a beach or chasing the sun. I am the guy who tends to wear  shorts over Christmas and not feel the cold.

Thursday last was a quick trip back to Llanelli and a meeting of the Deheubarth Conclave of Commissioned rulers in the Order of secret Monitor or Brotherhood of David and Jonathan in England Wales and its Districts and Conclaves Overseas. I don';t have to carry the gown around with me - but the sash stays with me until I install my successor next year.

Of course in this degree that may cause a little problem as I will have to get a dispensation to go into the Chair of another Conclave in September when I get installed as Supreme Ruler of the Cynghordy Conclave in Llanelli - you are not really allowed to be in two chairs in the same province under normal circumstances - but I think on this occasion they will allow it. Then I will have two sashes to wear and will have to decide which one at a time - - 1st World Problems !

In other news - I really like my father in law's scales which are obviously broken but show that I have lost another few pounds during my monthly period of abstinence. It has not really proved any difficulty - other than parting with £17.25 a bottle of wine for the top table on Thursday and not able to drink - and finding that the bottle was one glass short for the entire top - so having to put my hand into the pocket for a second bottle at Hotel prices !!!  But I kept the bottle - and can always take it back with me in July and enjoy a glass with myself .....
I still get annoyed with hotel prices. I saw a colleague buy a glass of lemonade with a brit vic orange put in the top  - he kindly offered to buy my pint of iced tap water (no charge naturally) and I then watched him pass over £3.25 for his soft drink! I may not be drinking - but I certainly will not be buying any soft drinks from Hotels - I shall stick with my iced water !!...

On better news - I saw in Tesco that they have a big box full of fruit that they invite children to eat from when int he store which is for free. I thought that was a nice idea - though I felt peckish myself - being unable to eat bread or potatoes on my diet - and thought that this was being un-necessarily ageist in its policy..  I decided not to stand on my high horse on this occasion - but it is food for thought - or rather food for kids and not old men ( see what i did there?)

So - I work on my new Song - Song for Valeria - but having to use the laptop mike and audacity software as practice mode... it will get together - hopefully before I get to Germany ...

She stood at the window
There were Shadows within
The flicker of firelight
Tattooing her skin
So Still and so Silent
Her gaze far away
If I close my eyes tightly

I can see her today...

She sat at the table
Her head in her hands
Her gaze it was distant
Far places far lands
But her smile it was gentle
She saw through it all
A band of bright scarlet

O'er her eyes pierced my soul

She walked like a dancer

She stood like a Queen
With Fur at her shoulders
So lithe and so lean
Stark elven features
A haughty disdain
Brings me back to the Crabbe
Again and again..

So - 24 Days into Diet - 6 to go
(Not that I am counting of course !!)
Cheers

23rd June 2017 - Friday - South Coast Again

Thought for the day : "Constipated people don’t give a crap"

So weather changing a little. There will probably be rain for the weekend at Glastonbury - and next year will be a fallow year. Seems Kris Kristofferson was at the Pyramid today - would have enjoyed watching that - last great star I saw at Glastonbury that I really enjoyed was Johnny Cash who had a huge crowd at the main stage - and John Tamms who sang 40 shillings on the drum in a more discrete crowd of maybe 20 .....

First chance of driving the new Cash-Cow - and a beautiful drive it was as well...
Fish Pie for dinner - and a glass of squash..
Songs from Mythodea..

Day23D
Keeping an eye out for you ...
Cheers!

22nd June 2017 - Serendipity and Saucy Photos

Thought for the day :"I'd just like to give a shout out to all librarians - oh"

Early start to the day - not really intentionally - someone decided that today was a good day to start letting off fireworks in the local park at Dawn. Either they got the Solstice wrong - or decided to celebrate the end of Ramadam or just thought it was a good time to have a party. Sadly - we seem to have a dog that does not mind thunder storms - but does not like the bangs in a fireworks and decided to insert herself under the dressing table - which really is not a good idea - though I suppose it has proved a good reason to clear all the "stuff" underneath for the first time in five years ... But a disturbed morning and when you are up - you may as well be up ....

Got in the car this morning - have been ignored a rolled up piece of paper by the car mat near the pedals for a couple of weeks now - decided to clear it this morning - 2 ten pound notes - Result!!!

It seems Dewi and Dynwen are on the move again - with their babies - I shall have to try and catch them when they get back to Caerphilly Castle... but I have been holding these pictures for a while so I thought I should post them ...

The Eggs

and the babies
A day in Llanelli today and going into the Chair of Deheubarth Conclave of the Order of the Secret Monitor later today - then back down to the South Coast tomorrow for the weekend ..  Busy Busy ...

Susie off for a photo shoot for the Choir - a saucy Calendar Girls style photo shoot - hunting around for Victorian Underwear and suitable props...should be interesting .. and I wish them luck ..

21st June 2017 - Longest day - Hottest Day

Thought for the day: "His wife told him: "Sex is better on holiday." That wasn't a very nice postcard to receive."

They say that it is getting hotter and that we will be expecting this weather more in the future. I understand that the planes in Phoenix Arizona have been grounded as the temperature has reached 40 degrees and it is not safe for them to take off ....

Meanwhile, my friend Pat decided that he would trot on down to Stonehenge to take some morning photos there - until he found that the parking charge was £15 per car....   he deided to go home and take this excellent picture instead ... Well done Pat !!

Blandford - Photo by Pat Patrick
Turns out also to be the birthday of one of my muses... Happy Birthday to Tanja

Very warm again - looks as thought we will be heading back to Llanelli today...

20th June 2017 - Of Virgins and Heat

Thought for the day: "Just remember - if we are caught you are deaf and I don't speak English"

Dawn on Glastonbury Tor
So today is the summer solstice and we are having the right weather for it as well - well above average for the time of the year ..... Blazing sunshine and very hot.

Seems we are well above the average temperatures for this time of year - no doubt the hose pipe bans will be following soon...

In other news : Do Virgins taste better than those that are not????

19th June 2017 - Happy Monday - of Pi's and Politics

Thought for the day: "Doctor: Can you point to where it hurts Me: [gestures wildly towards The News].."

An opinion without 3.14 is just an onion. But piracy becomes racy. If you give a stud 3.14 he becomes stupid, and even the wisest become the wispiest. If you lose 3.14 it will make lots of pilots. And if you take it from canopies you can paddle your own canoe, if popes had it they would be poppies, but scampi would be just a scam in a sepia sea.

thanks Bob Williams...

Meanwhile - back to the news - a Starwars Summary...

seemed apt - whatever your politics...
and to put it another way (to maintain the balance of course)...

Happy Monday

18th June 2017 - They walk among us

Thought for the day: "You're not fat, you're just... easier to see."

Appears it is Father's Day today - we do not really celebrate but my youngest posted this lovely old picture from my Long Service and Good Conduct Medal Ceremony...  Always said I was a good role player !!
Chief Inspector Iain Sewell - Long Service Medal Awards - 1998
Of course there are always alternatives:

On the useful scale of things - there are some points in history that are worth noting..

I was musing through some old missives today and found this small catalogue of idiocy
I thought I would share it before it was lost into the annals of antiquity...

IDIOT SIGHTING No.1
My daughter and I went to the McDonald's checkout to pay our bill and I gave the clerk a £5 note.
Our total bill was £4.20, so I also handed her a 20 pence piece.
She said, 'You gave me too much money.'
I said, 'Yes I know, but this way you can just give me £1 back.'
She sighed and went to get the Manager who asked me to repeat my request.
I did so, and he handed me back the 20 pence and said 'We're sorry but we do not do that kind of thing.'
The clerk then proceeded to give me back 80 pence in change.
Do not confuse the clerks at MacDonald's in St Albans , Hertfordshire.!!

IDIOT SIGHTING No2
We had to have the garage door repaired. The GARADOR repairman told us that one of our problems was that we did not have a 'large' enough motor on the opener.
I thought for a moment, and said that we had the largest one GARADOR made at that time, a 1/2 horsepower.
He shook his head and said, 'Lady, you need a 1/4 horsepower.'
I responded that 1/2 was larger than 1/4 and he said, 'NOOO, it's not. Four is larger than two.'
We haven't used Garador repair since.
Happened in Moor Park , near Watford .

IDIOT SIGHTING No3
I live in a semi-rural area. We recently had a new neighbour call the Highways Department to request the removal of the 'DEER CROSSING' sign from our road.
The reason: 'Too many deer are being hit by cars on this stretch of road!
I don't think this is a good place for them to be crossing, any-more.'
Story from Potters Bar, Hertfordshire.

IDIOT SIGHTING No 4
My daughter went to a local Kentucky Fried Chicken and ordered a Taco. She asked the person behind the counter for 'minimal lettuce.' He said he was sorry, but they only had Iceberg Lettuce.
From South Oxhey , Hertfordshire.

IDIOT SIGHTING No 5
I was at the airport, checking in at the gate when an airport employee asked,
'Has anyone put anything in your baggage without your knowledge?'
To which I replied, 'If it was without my knowledge, how would I know?'
He smiled knowingly and nodded, 'That's why we ask.'
Happened at Luton Airport

IDIOT SIGHTING No 6
The traffic light on the corner buzzes when the lights turn red and it is safe to cross the road. I was crossing with an intellectually challenged friend of mine.
She asked if I knew what the buzzer was for. I explained that it signals blind people when the light is red.
Appalled, she responded, 'What on earth are blind people doing driving?!'
She is a Local County Council employee in St Albans ,
Hertfordshire. (And she's NOT blonde)

IDIOT SIGHTING No7
When my husband and I arrived at our local Ford dealer to pick up our car, we were told the keys had been locked in it. We went to the Service Department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the Driver's door. As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door-handle and discovered that it was unlocked. 'Hey,' I announced to the Fitter/Mechanic, 'it's open!'
His reply: 'I know. I already did that side.'
This was at the Ford dealership in St Albans , Hertfordshire.

STAY ALERT!
They walk among us.
AND THEY BREED!
