7th July 2019 - More Airports and Independence

Thought for the day:"Wimbledon Week ! Attended a friend’s funeral after he died being hit on the head with a tennis ball. It was a lovely service.

Seems the Trump faux pas regarding the war of independence carries on...

You can never believe what you see these days ...  The 4th July parades were rained on and there was very little coverage here - but they do say that they turned all the web cameras off so that there woudl be no comparisons with the size of crowd..  I can't say if that is true but...

Oh well - another Sunday passes

Cheers !

6th July 2019 - A day in History

Thought for the day:"It doesn’t matter if the glass is half empty or half full – there is still room for mead"

I am reminded that two days ago was the 243rd anniversary of the USA leaving the British Empire without a deal!

In among my searches yesterday I found an old reference to Mythodea from my earlier visits...

In other Trumpton news - it seems that the July 4th speech may have had a problem or two..
Like claiming that the revolutionary armies took over the airports in 1700's..  hmmm

"US President Donald Trump has blamed a teleprompter going "kaput" for a glaring anachronism in his Independence Day speech.
He told crowds on 4 July the Continental Army "took over the airports" during the American Revolutionary War in the 1770s.

we took over the airports
Observers quickly pointed out there was no air travel in 18th Century America.
Explaining away the slip-up on Friday, Mr Trump also said it was hard to read the teleprompter in the rain.
During his "Salute to America" speech at the Lincoln Memorial on Thursday, he was talking about the year 1775 when he said: "Our army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports, it did everything it had to do."
Critics pointed out the rebels could not have seized airports more than a century before the first powered flight - credited to the Wright brothers in 1903 - took off.
In the same sentence, Mr Trump also appeared to date a battle at Fort McHenry to the American Revolution, when it unfolded decades later during the War of 1812. "

and..

In summary ...

but in real history ...  Glyndwr takes Carmarthen ..

Glyndwr takes Carmarthen on 6th July 1403.
Owain Glyndwr, since being proclaimed Prince of Wales by his followers, had been a thorn in the flesh of Henry IV of England. However, until 1403 Owain's success had been confined to North Wales, where, along with his Tudur cousins, he had captured or destroyed several Anglo-Norman strongholds such as Ruthin, Conwy and Welshpool. Owain had thwarted Henry's counter-attacks, captured his son's baggage train and in 1401 had achieved a major victory at the battle of Mynydd Hyddgen.
During 1402, Glyndwr's forces had gone from strength to strength, capturing and ransoming his arch-rival Reginald de Grey in April and defeating and capturing Edmund Mortimer at the battle of Pilleth on Bryn Glas hill near Presteigne in June. This represented a significant advance into Mid Wales. An alliance with the Mortimer family, sealed by marriage to Owain's daughter, posed an increased threat to Henry IV's power. However, it was in July 1403 that Owain Glyndwr truly swept to power throughout Wales. His advance through his mother's homeland of Deheubarth, down the Tywi Valley secured the strongholds of Dryslwyn, Newcastle Emlyn and on 6th July, following a short siege, Carmarthen. With his army now 8000 strong, and with hundreds of Welsh archers and experienced men-at-arms defecting from Henry's army to swell Glyndwr's ranks, this could be said to represent the almost total collapse of English rule in Wales at that time.

Once more an excellent day in Llanelli in the Court of St Elli - Masonic Order of Athelstan

2nd July 2019 - Putting a coin in the electric meter

Thought for the day :"I only drinks on days that start with a T - Tuesday, Thursday, today, tomorrow"

Had a note from a friend in Germany this morning regarding the sad death of Erik. As you may be aware I had some coins cast for Vollsanger as a special currency for Mythodea - Vollsanger - Die Ganze Woche da / Here all week.

I had a message this morning via Facebook Messenger..

I can only say that I am touched..

Freya Perdaens
Commemoration to be Saturday 6th July ....

In other news...

Today the news contains information that it is to be illegal to have a silent electric car - they will have to make a noise so they do not knock blind people over...

From 1 July 2019 all manufacturers must install an acoustic sound system in new types of quiet electric and hybrid electric vehicles to improve road safety.

From 1 July 2019, all manufacturers must install a system in new types of quiet electric and hybrid electric vehicles. Sound generators will produce a specified level of noise when they are reversing or running below 20 km/h(about 12mph). The sound generated will be similar to that made by a conventional engine and can be temporarily deactivated by the driver if judged necessary.

The new regulation to make acoustic systems within electric vehicles compulsory will allow those who are visually impaired to hear vehicles more easily. The news comes ahead of the one year anniversary of the government’s Road to Zero strategy, which has helped to achieve record levels of ultra-low emission vehicles on UK roads

However - other problems also occur

Of course - keeping the carbon footprint down is laudable..

But one questions the use of diesel generator to charge Australian Cars

Or this ??

It is a Green One !!!

Cheers !

1st July 2019 - Victoria Cross - 14% were Freemasons

Thought for the day :"I'm 65 years old and just completed my first novel! Tomorrow I will begin reading my 2nd one!"

I will just leave this one here ...

but it does not end there

In other news - I note “Over 200 Freemasons were recipient of the Victoria Cross, that is 14% of all recipients of the Victoria Cross have been Freemasons – a memorial to the thousands of English Freemasons who lost their lives during the Great War.”
UGLE's Grand Master, HRH The Duke of Kent, alongside Emily Draper who carved the Remembrance Stone
IN HONOUR OF ALL ENGLISH FREEMASONS AWARDED THE PRESTIGIOUS VICTORIA CROSS (VC), THE UNITED GRAND LODGE OF ENGLAND’S (UGLE) GRAND MASTER, HRH THE DUKE OF KENT, UNVEILED A UNIQUE VICTORIA CROSS REMEMBRANCE STONE AT FREEMASONS’ HALL ON 27TH JUNE 2019

The Remembrance Stone was commissioned in 2016 by Granville Angell to commemorate all English Freemasons who were awarded the Victoria Cross. The VC is the highest award for gallantry that can be conferred on a member of the British Armed Forces and since its introduction in 1856, more than 200 Freemasons have been awarded the Victoria Cross – making up an astonishing 14% of all recipients.

The Remembrance Stone was carved by Emily Draper, who was Worcester Cathedral’s first female Stonemason apprentice, having been sponsored by local Freemasons. During the preparation stage of the stone, Emily also found out that her Great Uncle was a Freemason VC recipient.

But it is the first of July
White Rabbits it is - at least the time is correct

and finally - a photo of the sun shining into the Monument on the Coastal Path

I read that the original idea was for there to be mirrors..
Graham Harries tells the story

"The original plan for these monuments was to have a mirror on the top & a laser that would shine from Whitford Lighthouse. This would cover the estuary with a web of light. The only problem was that the lighthouse moved in the tidal waters. This would have caused the laser to miss the mirrors!"

Best laid plans ...

Start of a count down to Mythodea ..

and a song
The West Awakes

Cheers
