29th October 2026 - Head in the Books again

Thought for the day: "Looking for the Colgate toothpaste factory yesterday but couldn’t find it as there was no plaque on the wall."

Susie has a new toy!!

She has wanted a new pot for a long time and now has worked out that we can cook on the kitchen wood burner - a cast iron La Creuset  Casserole Dish

All good for prepping for bad times ahead  - or for doing some cooking on the hob.

In other news she decided to buy a cast iron trivet to use with it.

I asked - "do you mean one of these?"  and brought in two trivets that have been on the patio since we arrived here 

Maybe the fire has been used for cooking in the past...

Well at least the new one will be a green one to match the green creuset rather than the plain ones outside

A day with Chris setting the fencing up for Fabio..   Hard work and all tensioned well.

Need to get another couple of metal drill bits to finish and then we are getting to the stage where we can raise the central Pole and think about the netting ... 

A big step forward!!

A little bit tired!

While we were waiting we tossed a lot of wood up to the new wood store  ( that is the royal we - Chris did the work while I was doing the drilling)

Another good day of work.

In other words - we had a visitor at the window

21st October 2026 - Chris Day - and the Aviary

So - rain this morning and decided to carry on despite it - happily it held off for a lot of the day 

So we tackled the Aviary - the elderberry tree in the center needed taking down as did the hazel and the hawthorn and he hazel - 

had to take the netting off  the top to get into the area - 

lots of scratches and a very big bonfire ready for the the November I think

Finally succumbed - fire lit in the sitting room today 

And sign of the summer being over - the tents are taken down 

Need to dry them out now ...    but will go to the stores dry if I can ...
