6th September 2023 - Plums, Tractors and Mysteries

Thought for the day :"365.25 days of drinking low-calorie beer is One Lite Year"

Another scorcher  - there was talk about getting the hottest day of the year which would be a record for September but apparently it missed it by 0.1 of a degree..

Broke the John Deere yesterday doing the lower paths so borrowed a trailer and took it to Tremain today - hoping that the bills will not be too much but we can't really do without it.

Dodged the heat-stroke to walk the dogs and then not much else until the sun was going down when we decided to try to rescue some of the plums from the Plum Tree .. It has grown so much that it is really hard to get to any of the plums so with a ladder and the long reach cutters I trimmed a few of the branches to get the plums.

Think there may be Plum Jam in the making tomorrow ...

In other news there are strange things happening on the lane - especially around the seat I put by Wyn's Woodlands - where I wait for 'Thena when she decides to walk the perimeter ...

It started when someone put a pip in the back of the seat - which we thought was for Jim (The Pipe) but apparently he knew nothing about it..   Recently that Pipe has broken off or been taken but I found that there word "SIT" has been written on the back support!!..  Okay - that is fair enough though why someone wanted to bring a pen and write I do not know.
Today - a stick has been put into the ground in from of the seat - for what I have no idea - but I have watched enough horror films and Computer Games to know better than to touch it or remove it...

Cheers !

5th September 2023 - Hot and Sunny

Thought for the day :" I am thinking of becoming a minimalist. It was the least I can do."

Susie not having a good day - neck probs again and looks as though it may have stemmed from trying to get the plums for the plum tree by using a pot on a stick - but that requires looking up for a long time ..
Co-codomol and a fuzzy day as a result...

I managed to cut the lower quarter with the John Deere and catch a large stone and shatter a fly wheel - so look like trying to get into the repair for a repair - hopefully - likely still to be a busy time with a sudden burst of sun again .. but lower quarter looking good

Strimmed the pontoon and  the pathways around Susie's raspberry patches, and repaired the streetlights that it seems John next door cut when doing his work and failed to mention - but they are working now  and all is good.

Susie's Lemon Tree is flowering with some blossom - not out fully yet - but will take photos tomorrow

And feeling a lot better today - with just a bit of a cough still tickling
Decided not to go to Rose Croix - another day at home will be better .. Have the Provincial Athelstan Meeting next weekend ...

A lot to do

Cheers

4th September 2023 - Odin and the Ravens

Thought for the day :"If you sail 220 yards at one nautical mile per hour - you will sail but Knotfurlong"

Just because I enjoyed it - here is a little tale of Odin and the Ravens

Once upon a time and long ago, Odin was walking under the branches of Yggdrasil when two ravens swooped down and settled upon his shoulders. The raven on his left was white as the mists of Niflheim (for back then, all ravens were white), and his eyes mirrored the clouds. The raven on his right glistened in the sun like the snows of Jotunheim, and looked at him with bright clear eyes. And Odin called the raven to his right Hugin, which is Thought, and the other one he named Munin, which means Memory.

As the days passed, Hugin and Munin matched the Allfather’s curiosity for everything in the Nine Worlds, flying around and watching and listening to whatever they could, and in the evenings, they returned to him to tell him all they had seen and heard in the long hours of the day. They told him about the slow thoughts of the mountains, the colourful and ever-changing memories of men, and the sound of the song in the heart of everything that lives.

And though Odin delighted in the knowledge they brought, he always felt they had missed something, and he said, “That was much, but not yet enough. Tomorrow you must fly again. Try to rest now.” And the ravens slept uneasily, not knowing what they had missed, and every morning, they flew out again.

There came one of many evenings after another long day when they had once again seen all that Sunna’s shine could show, had listened to all men’s bright thoughts in Midgard, and read their waking memories, when Hugin said to Munin, “We cannot return yet. It is not enough. We must go farther.” And they flew on into the night.

And Hugin flew through the dark dreams of mankind and heard their thoughts which they dared not think during the daytime, not even before themselves. He winged through the black void between the stars where there was nothing at all, and on to the twilight world of the future, where there is equally nothing and everything at once. And when he returned, his feathers, from tip to tip, were black as the night.

And Munin flew through the minds of men into the shady corners and cellars where they had hidden all the things they did not like, and locked them away, saying “I do not remember.” He soared through the sightless void of Ginnungagap, and on and on until he arrived at the ashes of Ragnarok which obscured this age from the next. And when he returned, his feathers, from beak to tail, were as black as soot.

The ravens returned to Odin just before the break of morning, when the night is at its darkest, and when they settled back on his shoulders, he knew all that they had seen, and they did not need to tell. And he understood what had been missing, and nodded, and said, “It is much, and it is enough. For tonight. You may rest.” And the ravens blinked drowsily into the first rays of the rising sun which glinted on their now black feathers, tucked their beaks under their wings, and slept very well.

Since that time, all ravens have been seen to be as black as a shadow on a starless night. Very rarely it happens that somebody catches a glimpse of a white raven, and should you ever be lucky enough to see one, you’ll know that you have wandered far off and back into the land of memory, before ravens came to be black.

Cheers !

3rd September 2023 - Happy Birthday Erin

Thought for the day :"The more you weigh the harder you are to kidnap. Keep safe. Drink more beer."

Lawns finished today despite still feeling a little under the weather and managed to strim a lot of the area.
Erin and Family arrived and as  it was her birthday she received her new Car "Shadow" and they took it for a drive around the Cardigan area as a first drive.

Sunday dinner and they are in their new House at Wern Beri Llanboidy - SA34 0EY

Seems to be a good place for an interim house while they sort themselves out with new house sale and purchase.

Cheers :

2nd September 2023 - Sunny Day - That makes a change

Thought for the day :"2000 pounds of Chinese Soup = Won Ton"

The sun came out after a long haul of rain and cold - in fact it was pretty warm.

Charlie posted a picture of him driving his tractor in a viking hat - so I had to do something to support his craziness..

Not feeling great but still showing negative with only an annoying cough - but I see friends from the event are getting some serious Covid responses including a possibility of hospitalisation ... Mine is hopefully going to be supported by some cough medicine that I bought today ...

Meanwhile - working on the Bard's Guild Pages ...

Also planned for a Membership Album -

I will go with this one as usual

And a few pictures from the event

1st September 2023 - Testing for Covid...

Thought for the day :"The ratio of an igloos circumference to its diameter = Eskimo Pi"

Maybe toying with Covid - not feeling so great and tickly cough - but second day of testing negative -
Some pages on line suggesting that the tests are not necessarily catching the latest variants - but there is nothing I can do anyway ...

Ironic that today is the day that the Government decided to withdraw support for the NHS app and withdrew it as a working app...

So - not much today to start the new Month

Cheers
