7th April 2022 - A bit more pathway...

Thought for the day :"Never argue with left handed people – they are not right"

My life seems to be revolving around the Giraffes and the Lower Quarter - but there is a daily progress.
Dogs seem to enjoy mulling around the lower area and the piles of brambles are mounting and drying ready for burning ..

A windy day again today and pretty cold - but friends arriving later to stay over in their Camper Van.
Tony and Sheila of Raptorcare - haven't see for a long time !

So put some more pathway down as we start into the Lower Quarter proper... Will have to go back and lay the membrane under and then it will be some more barrows of chippings but a bit more each day is the motto !

  Cheers !

6th April 2022 - Brambling Boy!

Thought for the day :"Somebody tore the 5th month out of my calendar. I am totally dismayed"

Day three of clearing Giraffic Park in the lower quarter.

The daily walk with the dogs is turning into a session down the bottom as we come across the fields to teh Bluebell Glade.

Bluebells are a little the worse for wear this year due to a teenage leggy blond dog playing zoomies with 'Thena but I think that they will recover. Hopefully they will also spread into the remainder of the clearing in due time. Ground is very wet in the centre of the area - and thinking of putting a plastic/pebble path down the centre where it is worst- allowing access either side where it is dryer for possible camping. We shall see what affect planting the willow withies into the ground will have.

However - it is quite dramatic how much ground will be recovered, between the lower quarter and the Island.

In other news - not fact checked but it seems that the Russians camped in the Red Forest - a radio-active area of Chernobyl and many are sick ...

Again not checked but a Russian spokesman was said to state that this was clearly Fake News as troops camped there in the 2nd World War and had no radiation poisoning at all !!

Australian News

and on the subject of Ukraine..

(not fact checked but looks about right )
Similar to the first video showing the progress and reasoning behind the invasion.

5th April 2022 - Brambling again

Thought for the day :"I had some jokes about retired people, but none of them work..."

Weather stayed cold but relatively dry so after a walk with the dogs I took a while to attack the lower quarter again before heading off to see Vic at Llanybyther. He was in good spirits though short on conversation as usual but seemed happy to see us there. Took some time to show photographs of family and the house. He seems to have lost his book of family - apparently may have got wet and been thrown so need to think about getting a new book printed out and put into a scrapbook .

But the lower quarter (Giraffic Park) is getting one stage nearer...

Walking back this evening I thought I would record the springs  ..

Bubbles showing

And so - another day finishes...
Cheers !

4th April 2022 - Just a Thought

Thought for the day :"There are two types of people in this world – best to avoid both of them"

Another wet day - so a quick walk with the dogs and an hour in the lower quarter was enough
No photos today as all a bit damp...

3rd April 2022 - Starting the Lower Quarter - Giraffic Park

Thought for the day :"Everyone told Sam not to sing – but Samsung"anyway"

A bit of a rainy day - but still managed to walk the dogs and get down tot he lower quarter and do some brambling - the ground is damp but not too bad and the job of clearing is one that has been on the list for a long time - and I suppose mainly inspired by the success in clearing the Island.

Meanwhile back at the springs the skunk cabbage is getting to full colour...

And teh Temple of Doris is starting to bloom

In other news - Ukraine continues...

Cheers !

2nd April 2022 - Brambles

Thought for the day :"I don’t always go the extra miles – but when I do it is because I missed the exit"

Not a great day for weather - the cold spell is really hitting and though it was sunny later we had some showers.

Today was a day to get some straw and cat food for the Pea-fowl - yes that is what they eat as well as mixed corn, but we wanted to provide a good nesting area for Zsa Zsa to lay some eggs...

Fabio is displaying well

So we should be having some results again soon I hope..

But the main part of the day was spent clearing some of the brambles in the lower quarter - trying to widen the bluebell glades..  'Thena decided to go walkabout and ended up in the Romany Caravan when I got the Landie out to look for her ..
Sadly. a Black and Golden Labrador have been lost in the village since the 31st March, and many are looking for them with posters out in the village.
What I did not want to happen was for someone to see 'Thena running around and decide that she needed rescuing...

Was on line today to get some new dog tags engraved for them both - we will have to start dressing them in their collars when they get up in the morning as we used to with our previous dogs...

But this evening, though it is still cold, I had this evening sky to look at - and that is not sunset - this is the other direction.. But still looking good ..

In other news - Delivery of a box set of the Prisoner arrived today - which means I have the resources to explain Port Meirion to visitors in the future.

in other news - from Ukraine in a Universe far far away

And so - another day is done

Cheers !

1st April 2022 - No jokes here

Thought for the day:" Alligators can grow up to 15 feet – but most only have 4"

Still cold but another sunny day
Early start as we were rudely awakened by the Telegraph poles being delivered - and they were heavy !!
But we managed to get them down to the paddock..
Getting them placed will be another task - and I think that the holes will need to be wider - they are wider than I thought.
But that is for another day ..

A day clearing the island and getting rid of the brambles. A good start but the nettles are getting to be very active now so I think tomorrow will be a day to see how the strimmer works down there - or may be the brush cutters - it may be easier to use them. Then I can make a decision whether a wheeled version would be of advantage.

But daffodils are still looking good

Put up some shelves in the tunnel to hold the camping chairs - will finish tomorrow ..

So - another day and today Corona reached its highest level since the start o the pandemic and it hardly makes the news... 1:13 in England  1:12 in Wales
So glad that I did not go to the Castle - though in fairness I have seen no infections from the event ..
But still feel happier.

Cheers !
