4th November 2020 - Biden my Time at Ffynnon Wen

Thought for the day:"Every time I go into the off-licence, a mysterious man appears out of nowhere to give me advice – my spirit guardian"

I knew that it would be a bad idea to stay up to watch the American Election. It was clear that there would be no real result overnight. I really only thought I would wait to see what Florida did to give a good indication and then go to bed - but - Florida did not play kind. I woke this morning with no more information - but with a little more trepidation that Trump was getting far more support than I think would be a sensible thought ...  66 million think he has done a good job.. As I write it is still too close to call but the late votes coming in seem to be mainly Democratic and we are tending towards a Biden Success..

It may be early - but I love this image

Today was meant to be dry and bright - Nope !
Sporadic rain storms and bits of dry...
Took a walk around the block with the dog and blew away some cobwebs from staying up far too late last night.

New rigging gloves arrived today - so started the repaint of the sheds..

The before photos ...
Half way through today so will post the complete version tomorrow ..

Susie managed to clear some blackcurrant bushes and prune them back today and also to clear the trellis where we think the original blackberry bushes were. We can see that they were planted at particular places but the plants themselves have gone so far that they are just being removed.

But, here are some pictures from the greenhouse yesterday that were excess to the rest of the day's pictures.

Fungi!!

Some interesting mushroom / toadstools

Salad and Peas

Mixed salad leaves
More salad leaves

Salad and broad beans under cloches

Hollyhocks

Lupins and Hollyhocks

Delphiniums (Blue)

Peppers are healthy

More Peppers

Salad Stuff

Spinach (eeugh)

more  !!

Broad Beans

Peas in a gutter  - seems they are sprouting

So we can take the glass off..

And so - after a tiring day .. we still do not know who will be President .. but it looks a little better now than when I went to bed last night - though I have to say one thing - Trump said that on the 4th November there would be no mention of Covid - he has been right on this if nothing else. I have not heard a thing about Covid today - though it is clear that many have died  and many lives have been changed today...

Cheers !

3rd November 2020 - Election Day - But other things to do

Thought for the day: "The difference between a well dressed man on a bicycle and a poorly dressed man on a Unicycle is attire !!"

Heard today "Having a complete shut-down but leaving the schools and colleges open is like having a designated weeing area in the swimming pool"

Security levels have gone up in the UK in the wake of Vienna shooting atrocity - 4 dead so far, and after recent France attack. Security level is now Severe.

Wales is still set to exit the fire-break lockdown next Monday thoguh England remain on lock-down until December 2nd at earliest.

And the US votes for a President, House of Representatives and 33 Senators.
Meanwhile much of the US are boarding up their shop fronts in fear of street violence.
Trump still says that he will not accept the outcome if it does not include his election -
May you live in interesting times...

In other news, we have had sun, rain, hail, and on occasion it has seemed as though someone was switching a shower on and off as torrential downfalls occur. I am told that parts of UK have had snow!

But we managed to prune the apple trees and prop a couple of them up with stakes to support.
I managed to trim some more box hedging before the battery ran out (I hadn't re-charged from the chain-sawing yesterday so not fully charged.
Cleared some of the top area near the road - and found where 'Thena has been getting out to the road. Or at least one of two or more places.

Finding a way through to the top of the section - I cut a number of hazel saplings which I then took to the road and wove into a make-shift  fencing. It may hold for the moment.

While we were managing this two things happened. Firstly the skies opened ad as a result got a little wet!! But the sun was also shining and we had hail!
And so of course we had rainbows - and in this case it was a complete rainbow and indeed a double!

and a video view....

But it was also a day to head down to the beach at Llangrannog..   And though it was cold and blowy, the Dog enjoyed and we let the wind blow away some cobwebs.

 and a bit of video...

And so - let's get back to the USA and elections....
See you on the other side!
Cheers !

2nd November 2020 - Gardens Beaches and Covid Advice

Thought for the day :"someone has stolen the grass from my neighbour's garden. He is looking forlorn!"

A mix of weather today - but enough to be able to get out and do a little work. Waiting for a delivery of Cuprinol and Rigging gloves, so nothing more done with the machinery shed today.

Instead Susie decided to attack / sorry .. Prune the pear trees. We have taken them back to the level of the bird feeders. We hope that we have done it to the right amount - taking back to three buds and removing the interior branches.  Only the spring will tell.

I spent most of the time chopping the branches and twigs into a bag. Getting my normal ache into my hands for the evening. Seems to be a normal feeling fro the evening.

Quick trip to drop off the washing to Vic, and a swing round to the beach at llangrannog.

It was very stormy - and it was too wet to go onto the sand  but we watched for a while.
Seems that there is parking from September to June, and also a couple of places outside of the official car park - which seems to be pay and display all year around.

Oh - and the Drone Eating Tree is showing the drone clearly now...

Waiting for the rigger gloves before trying to scale the hawthorn tree. It is pretty prickly.

In other news this appeared upon my feed today. What to do if you catch Covid rather than information about how to avoid catching it...  Thought I would leave this for information .

Everyone is telling you how to NOT catch Coronavirus, but NO ONE is saying what to do if you get it. Thanks to this nurse in the UK for putting this guide together:
Finally, some sensible advice. From a GP Nurse in the UK.
What I have seen a lot of are recommendations for how to try to avoid getting coronavirus in the first place:
• good hand washing
• personal hygiene
• social distancing
but what I have NOT seen a lot of is advice for what happens if you actually get it, which many of us will.
So as your friendly neighborhood Nurse let me make some suggestions:
If you get Covid-19
You basically just want to prepare as though you know you’re going to get a nasty respiratory bug, like bronchitis or pneumonia. You just have the foresight to know it might come your way!
Things to start doing now:
Get 20 minutes sun on your entire body (or as much as possible) every day. This will dramatically increase your Vitamin D levels, which improves your immune system.
If affordable take a good general supplement, plus 2000mg Vit C a day. Include ZINC, SELENIUM & GLUTATHIONE.
Scott’s Emulsion is a great general tonic (cod liver oil)
Things you should actually buy ahead of time:
*Kleenex*
*Paracetamol*
*Cough medicine* of choice (check the label and make sure you're not doubling up on Paracetamol)
*Zinc lozenges*
*Throat spray* like Andolex or TCP
*Honey and lemon* can work just as well!
*Vicks* vaporub for your chest is also a great suggestion.
*A humidifier* would be a good thing to buy and use in your room when you go to bed overnight. (You can also just turn the shower on hot and sit in the bathroom breathing in the steam)
*If you have a history of asthma* and you have a prescription inhaler, make sure the one you have isn’t expired and refill it/get a new one if necessary.
*Meals* This is also a good time to meal prep: make a big batch of your favorite soup to freeze and have on hand.
*Hydrate* hydrate, hydrate! Stock up on whatever your favorite clear fluids are to drink, though tap water is fine you may appreciate some variety!
*For symptom management* and a fever over 38°c take Paracetamol rather than Ibuprofen.
*Rest lots* You should not be leaving your house! Even if you are feeling better you may will still be infectious for fourteen days and older people and those with existing health conditions should be avoided!
*Wear gloves and a mask* to avoid contaminating others in your house
*Isolate* in your bedroom if not living alone, ask friends and family to leave supplies outside to avoid contact.
*Sanitize* your bed linen and clothes frequently by washing and clean your bathroom with recommended sanitizers.
*You DO NOT NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL unless* you are having trouble breathing or your fever is very high (over 39°C) and unmanaged with meds.
90% of healthy adult cases thus far have been managed at home with basic rest/hydration/over-the-counter meds.
If you are worried or in distress or feel your symptoms are getting worse:
*Pre-existing risks* If you have a pre-existing lung condition (COPD, emphysema, lung cancer) or are on immunosuppressants, now is a great time to talk to your Doctor or specialist about what they would like you to do if you get sick.
*Children* One major relief to you parents is that kids do VERY well with coronavirus, they usually bounce back in a few days (but they will still be infectious) Just use pediatric dosing .
*Be calm and prepare rationally* and everything will be fine. This is to inform us all that the pH for corona virus varies from 5.5 to 8.5.
All we need to do, to beat corona virus, we need to take more of an alkaline foods that are above the above pH level of the Virus.
How do you know you have coronavirus
1. Itching in the throat
2. Dry throat
3. Dry cough
4. High temperature
5. Shortness of breathing
6. Loss of sense of taste & smell
7. Covid toes - toes turning blue/black
So when you notice these things, quickly take warm water with lemon and drink.

We are one week away from release from Wales Firebreak. Four days to England Shut-down for a month. Two days to US Election. And hopefully 4 days to Chimney being swept - it they are still in business.

Stay safe out there ..
Cheers !

1st November 2020 - Wet and Mizzy Sundays & things Mothers Taught us...

Thought for the day:"Is a singing necromancer a Ouiji Bard?"

White Rabbits once more - maybe putting some weight on !!

Got out to the machinery shed and finished the current Cuprinol but only managed one panel.

Wet mizzy rain out there so seems that we will be inside for today...
Hatten down the Batches!!

And of course - Things that Mother taught us...

Cheers!
